Help me celebrate the publication of my Christmas book, ALL CALM, ALL BRIGHT: CHRISTMAS OFFERINGS by writing something about the Holiday Season.
Prompt: Christmas from new perspectives
For anyone interested, ALL CALM, ALL BRIGHT is available online through Amazon.com at: http://www.amazon.com/All-Calm-Bright-Christmas-Offerings/dp/1434401723/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1195706867&sr=1-2
ALL CALM, ALL BRIGHT reflects facets of Christmas, from meditations on sacred Scripture to explorations of Christmas in daily life; from the serious to the light, at times even playful; from lyric poems to verse-cantatas for readers and choirs/congregations, and a fable for children on the virtues of selflessness, "How Santa's Reindeer Learned to Fly."
Use that breadth of interest as a springboard for your poems.
[NEW TO THE CONTEST: Also open to pre-writes that have not received trophies elsewhere. Merry Christmas.]
_____
Some general GUIDELINES:
Please use GRAMMAR, SPELLING, and MECHANICS carefully.
Please write POETRY, not sermons, polemics, diary entries, stream-of-consciousness, random wanderings, or other forms of verbal expression.
Please explore the full range of poetic DEVICES: image, metaphor, rhythm, language, music, compression. Free verse shouldn’t be prosaic; rhymes shouldn’t be strained; meter shouldn’t be metronomic.
Be prepared for technical critiques. I won’t criticize your soul but I might your spelling.
Nothing explicitly adult or obscene.
I may extend the contest or add trophies/points, depending on the quantity and quality of entries.

I've already written enough Xmas poems ...
and probably won't write many more, at least for a long time. However, I wish you luck with the contest. I'll probably come and read some of the entries anyway. -
Michael, Looks like a good contest. I hope you get a lot of participation.
I ordered your book and look forward to reading it soon as it arrives.
May your holidays be festive and bring much joy.

Am I allowed to submit more than one poem?
-
-
For now I think one per poet. Perhaps that will change as the closing date draws nearer.

I wish prewrites were allowed. I just wrote a Christmas poem for another contest, & I think it'd fit this one, too. Good luck with it!
