Write Like Dahl!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roald_Dahl

As
Roald Dahl did, time and again,
I’d like you to make me smile…
So drop green crystals upon your brain,
And… imitate his style!

I would like you to write an original poem for children, adults or both!  (Please label accordingly).  Just be inspired by the ‘style’ of Dahl, e.g.

1) Rhyme... well! 2) Tell a story (with zany characters!) 3) Be clever/funny!

Most importantly!

Dahl’s work would usually contain a lot of gleefully malicious black humour and grotesque scenarios, including gruesome violence!  (Farmers being devoured by clever pigs, children being thrown like hammers by their head teachers… that sort of thing!)  Go, have fun with it!

Any questions?  Feel free to ask. :-)

You can be assured that this contest will be judged fairly. Have fun!

Drayton.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on December 17, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 1 people
  • Final notes:
Thank you all for your wonderful entries! Cliche as it may seem, it was quite a difficult one to judge! All finalists presented poems/doggerels of a very fine standard, conforming well to the subject matter, and providing me (and all who read) with a good laugh. Thank you so much.

    Drayton.

This poem was inspirational, even though it was hard for me to understand for the first time. I kept reading it and got a little bit wiser. It is excellent and lovely.

    Hmm

I just finished a loong poem for this contest which was the rewrite of Rapunzel the way Dahl did with fairytales in his Revolting Rhymes... Do you intend to extend the contest?
Anyway, have fun. Nice idea for a contest!
