Inspiration Windows...Two. I won a PIF contest hosted by Laura Lamarca, thank you Laura,
http://allpoetry.com/poem/3580722
I am pleased to host this contest and I simply ask the Gold Award Winner to consider hosting a similar contest. The theme of this contest is the poem “A Clear Midnight” by Walt Whitman, one of the great American [ U.S. ] poets. The poem is considered a model of brevity, using but a few words to say some important things.
Please let the Whitman poem inspire you to write, no limit on length, and no limit on entries, I will add more prizes if the contest grows larger than fifteen entries. The contest will close in five days.
Judging: will reward free verse styles and devices - imagery, metaphor, alliteration, assonance, consonance, use of lines and stanzas, internal rhyme, flow, and brevity[using few words, to do the job]. MOST the poem is the message, looking for the poet with something to say.
Free verse preferred
Five prizes [ more if contest grows beyond 15 entries]
Closes in five days at the end of November 14, 2007.
A Clear Midnight
THIS is thy hour O Soul, thy free flight into the wordless,
Away from books, away from art, the day erased, the lesson done,
Thee fully forth emerging, silent, gazing, pondering the themes thou
lovest best.
Night, sleep, death and the stars.
By Walt Whitman
