Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on November 7, 2007
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 150, Bronze: 75, Honorable mention: 4 people
- Final notes: This was REALLY hard and I am so not just saying that. The gold and silver winners both deserved gold, I kid you not. If you haven't read them, you should. I had to get a second opinion because I was torn between the two. In the end, I chose gold because of the emotional response it elicited. The rest of the entries were all amazing. I was very pleased. Bronze had a really creative metaphor that I loved! Well, thanks for your time and your entries!!
Gold will PIF with the 300 points and a different "discrimination" theme whether it be sexism, religious discrimination, ableism, etc.

Okay, I know that the picture was a representation of racism, but before I saw that, it reminded me of the good knight/ bad knight thing, and how they duel etc etc, and so, it made me chuckle. Interesting idea for a contest. I like the new twist. Good luck with it!

haha, I can see how you could see that. But think about this, were you viewing the brown gummy as the bad knight? If so, then can you see how past discriminatory beliefs have shaped our views today. Black is seen by adults, children, etc. as being evil it's just how we've always viewed it, and why? Because pre-civil thoughts were that black men and women were inferior and less important. *Sigh* Sorry for talking your ear off lol. Anyway thank you for complimenting my idea

I understand where you're coming from, but I think the idea of black and white representing good and evil goes back beyond black/white race discrimination as we know it today. White has long represented "good" because of its clean feeling. It's associated with angels and heaven, and Christians were doing that back at the turn of the millennia. The same thing with dark. People didn't like the dark and it was associated with bad things cause bad things could happen in the night. Concealed and scary and all. I really just saw the contrast of color. I would have thought the saw thing is it was yellow and dark purple. I didn't even know they made brown gummy bears actually... ^___^ Now I'm talking your ear off.

You know I don't think they do make brown gummy bears, I think those are like gummy bear wannabes lol...look closely at their eyes, they look weird. Anyhoo, it does go way back, but racism has been happening since before the civil war as well, before we even colonized America. Indians were brown therefore, less pure than the white folk. A course I took in Diversity we spoke about this. Children are scared of the dark because what can't be seen, what lurks, that is understandable, heck I used to be afraid of the dark for that same reason, but when the mind averts to negativity with the color black it is associated with the white being condescending.
And I see where you could see that is dark purple lol hmm...I don't know but we can just continue to talk each others ears off haha

Thanks for the silver. Excellent contest and it was nice discussing with you, even though we don't seem to quite see eye to eye.
