Amera’s Anniversary Contest

Amera’s Anniversary Contest

I have been blessed with a lot of fantastic friends here on AP this past year. My first day here was last Christmas Eve so here is my anniversary contest and it ends December 24th. It’s my payback time.

I am extremely concerned about hurting anyone’s feelings so if you will be offended if I DQ your masterpiece, please do not enter my contest. There is plenty of time so I want your best effort.

There will be only 20 spots and no reservations. I will DQ any poem that does not satisfy my taste. That doesn’t mean your poem isn’t good, it only means that it didn’t turn me on. So this contest is totally subjective.

I will DQ poems with no explanation why; this will assure there will be room for your best effort. There are a few poets here that think I don’t like them; that’s not true, I love you all; a few don’t like me, that’s Ok, I deal with it. So if you think I will show preference due to who you are, get that out of your mind. This is all for what I think is poetic quality. Your poem will be my anniversary present.

I love formal poetry with good meter and image, I love poetic device and complicated forms. If free verse is your forte by all means give me your best effort but I must warn you; there is only one poet on this site that has impressed me with free verse. That poet knows who she is so I hope she enters.

I don’t like Dirty Pretty (whatever that is), BDSM. Erotic poems are Ok but they must be amazing and penned with class and good taste. I don’t like Prose and I don’t like hate poems. Remember this is subjective so part of your challenge is to figure me out. If I DQ your poem, you didn’t figure me out.

No complaining and no hurt feelings, these are my points I’m spending. Be kind to others, if you slam another poets work it will reflect in my judging and I don’t want that. I want only to see your best and see you have fun.

Rules:

1.)         Less than 1000 words, this will allow for chained forms; not for free verse or prose.

2.)         No animated gifs or moving backgrounds

3.)         Good contrast so I can easily read it

4.)         Any form or style

5.)         Common sense

The system won’t let me close this contest December 24th but I will keep extending it and end it on Christmas eve.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on December 4, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 15000, Silver: 7000, Bronze: 3000, Honorable mention: 17 people
  • Final notes:
This contest was so very difficult to judge. Because of the point value it drew the best poets on AP and the talent is amazing. If you didn’t place in the top three don’t despair; the fact that you didn’t get DQ’d means you are one of the top poets. Most poems entered were DQ’d. I judged this contest as fair as I could and only on the poem, who wrote it had nothing to do with my decision. I mentioned that the final decision was totally subjective so the poems chosen were the ones I liked best. The HM’s are in no particular order. Thank you all for making this contest an amazing success and making my one year anniversary here a treat.

GOLD: The Cardinal Points and The Elements
Beautiful and absolutely amazing. This poem is composed as a chain of eight sonnets all in a different sonnet form representing; seasons, directions, women and elements. This is a must read.

    SILVER: Songs for Amera
An amazing amount of talent and work went into this, a double Sestina with an imbedded Villanelle.

    BRONZE: Star Fire
Everyone knows I’m a formal poet but this free verse is filled with color, motion and image. I’m addicted to just about everything this poet writes.

I will see what I can come up with..Kind of scared and hope I can meet your expectations. Sort of busy lately but there is enough time to try and get something to your standards.

Just one question, that may seem slightly stupid.
When you say to figure you out..

Do you want something for/about you, or simply something that we believe you would enjoy?

The competition in this contest was overwhelming. I read your top three entries [awhile back], and I completely agree with your choices. Great job in judging sweetie
The "PerV" in addition to "Swan Song"...I must say blew me away
Lane's write was outstanding as well...of course, this is true for all her writes. Congrads to all of you and congrads to everyone that made it through the final 20.
Amera, dubbed the "Queen of Form" here on AP, I bow down to thee and applaud you for hosting such a wonderful, challenging contest.
    Everyone, have a happy holiday

Christmas came early last December 24th,

Santa sadly left his fondest gift beneath the
poet tree, in the living room of AP, How deftly she wiggled free from the sack and was gifted to all, gracing the holdiay with her precence. The perfect gift to educate, tantalize, and just have fun with, wrapped in crisp clean papers of thought, that rival even the great poets. She has left many more gifts here for all to open, The tag simply says "Amera," when it should read
Amera-cle, translation a miracle. So be sure to visit her
wondrously gifted sight and site, and peruse all of the many perfect offerings that even Santa Claus hated to give away. ...lol~~~ sorry I missed this one. Artis
