Horrifying History

First things first, welcome!

This would be my seventh contest I believe and like always I am sure you all were dying to know that.

UPDATE: You are now allowed to enter more than one poem. Please do not enter more than 2 or 3. Thank you.

This is what I want from you:

Something very horrific that has happened in the past, something say out of WWI such as the use of chlorine or mustard gas or the inhumanity of flamethrowers, or WWII such as Pearl Harbour or the atomic bombings, or the Holocaust or perhaps any other past war related subjects but they must be about something that is fairly well known.

You could also write about :
The Titanic
The Hindenburg Zeppelin
The Halifax Explosion (involving the Imo and the Mont Blanc)
The sinking of the Lusitania
The terrorist attack on the World Trade Centers
Chernobyl

You could write from the perspective a person (a pilot, soldier, victim, bomber), a bomb, a cloud of gas, an iceberg or a ship, explain to me what is happening.
Or just write about all that is happening.

Here is a poem (merely as an example) that I wrote about the atomic bombing on Hiroshima.

Iniustus Factum (that is, Unjust Deed)

Dedicated to all those witnessed and lost their lives
in the dropping of the first atomic bombs on Japan.

Over Hiroshima flies a lone plane,
The air raid siren sounds again,
Warning inhabitants of a possible air raid,
Running and fleeing like ants they fade.
A while later after the plane is gone,
The all clear signal is given to carry on.
The next day another plane is in the sky
Over the city with a bomb so high.
Its name is the Enola Gay,
"After my mother," some heard the pilot say.
Releasing a single bomb over the target spot,
For forty-three seconds its falls; exploding not.
Barometric sensors detonate the Little Boy
Before it hits the ground to destroy
The city of Hiroshima and every inhabitant.
A bright flash expands vaporizing in an instant
People numbering over a thousand times ten,
Becoming a giant fireball three hundred feet across, then
A wave of radiation sweeps over a radius of miles
And a speed of sound shock wave wipes away smiles
In a giant wall of black dust that covers the city in ash.
A huge mushroom cloud shoots to the sky in a flash,
Filling the atmosphere with radioactive dust,
Causing black rain to fall with which the people would trust
To soothe their burnt flesh and quench their thirst,
Later to their dismay it was discovered to be the worst
Thing they could have done to themselves.
Americans*, you should be ashamed of yourselves!

* Not all Americans in general but those who supported it and had a part in it.

It can be about any other event as long as it is fairly well known and I know what it is about when I read it.
