Honor The People's Poet Contest

Maya Angelou

Dr. Angelou

Dr. Maya Angelou is a remarkable Renaissance woman who is hailed as one of the great voices of contemporary literature.  As a poet, educator, historian, best-selling author, actress, playwright, civil-rights  activist, producer and director, she continues to travel the world, spreading her legendary wisdom.  Within the rhythm of her poetry and elegance of her prose lies Angelou's unique power to help readers of every orientation span the lines of race and Angelou captivates audiences through the vigor and sheer beauty of her words and lyrics.

Alone by Maya Angelou

Lying, thinking
Last night
How to find my soul a home
Where water is not thirsty
And bread loaf is not stone
I came up with one thing
And I don't believe I'm wrong
That nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

There are some millionaires
With money they can't use
Their wives run round like banshees
Their children sing the blues
They've got expensive doctors
To cure their hearts of stone.
But nobody
No, nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Alone, all alone
Nobody, but nobody
Can make it out here alone.

Now if you listen closely
I'll tell you what I know
Storm clouds are gathering
The wind is gonna blow
The race of man is suffering
And I can hear the moan,
'Cause nobody,
But nobody
Can make it out here alone.

I adore Maya, even her novels are written poetically. She has a five book autobiography of which I have only two treasured books but they are treasured.I love the way she kept the nickname of Maya given to her by her brother who could not pronounce Marguerite and her heartbreaking honesty touches the soul,I find it refreshing that she is candid about her mistakes but as equally candid re her naievity and motive. If it were possible to love someome one has never met then that is what I feel,a love for this lady who gives whilst she lives, who dances the chances the days bring and is bugged by the blight of the heaviest nights but won't let them get her down to the point that she stays down,oh my,I am an ardent fan of this lively lady who is liberal with her lacing of wortds and with life itself, she had a strong Mother who told her whatever she decided to be she best be the best at it,methinks mom gave good advice and daughter heeded it.Bookmarked.Good luck with this.
