ah, music! a magic greater than all we do here...

well, here it is. music. so basically: i'm a music major in college. i love music. it is me. so here's your task-

write me a poem about a song
an instrument
a composer
or music in general

it can be vague or specific
analytical or observational
you can use extensive theory if you want
or you can just talk about how it makes you feel

if you talk about a specific song, please put the title and composer/performer in the authors notes.

this is not limited to classical musicians, but i would love to see some variety, so if you do a classical musician or piece, i'll love you forever.

rules:
no chat speak
no flaming me or anyone else
no erotica
no excessive cursing (cursing is fine in moderation)
read the other entries; its nice
read my stuff too; i'd appreciate it

peace all. i'm lame.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 3, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 2 people
  • Final notes:
wow, this was an awesome contest to judge. there were so many great entries, and i love music so much...it was nice to read the different things you all had to say about music. ^_^

    so here are the winners:

1st - an edge of promise, rising
wow. this piece was...incredible. the story is described was one i can understand well; the struggle of a female musician in a man's world. the woman this is dedicated to (elsa hilger) is an amazing woman, and i suggest you all read this piece.

    2nd - untitled
this piece made me smile. its tongue in cheek look at practicing music was something i am very familiar with. any music major and/or minor knows this story; heres a piece of music, practice it. i don't care that it looks insane now. just do it. quite amusing. ^_^

    3rd - twelve foot pipeline
this piece was equally amusing. more humor this time focusing on the instrument the french horn. give it a look; its amusing. it made me think of all the amusing instruments we have at our grasp that shouldn't be taken too seriously.

    honorable mentions:
    remember me
this was based off one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite musicians, josh groban. the poetic representation of the song lyrics was well mastered.

    musical talent
a true story about a son who once was a terrible musician who grew into a talented young man. i wonder if my mother felt this way about me when i was a child? ^_^

thank you to all who entered. i hope you had as much writing as i had reading. give your other entrants a looksie. they were all very good.

    ciao!
