THE HAIKU-PATCHWORK QUILT CONTEST-PROJECT

hey mice
no pissing
on my old winter quilt!
--Issa

Although I am not a quilter myself, many of the patterns, their histories and artistry have intrigued me.  Then I thought what a great contest and project-idea to create a haiku-patchwork quilt here at AP!

Posted below are 30 quilt-blocks selected for this contest-project.  As entries to this contest please post haiku 17 syllables-or-less titled to the quilt-block by the designated number.  Your haiku need not be drawn to the quilt-block pattern itself--It may also be written of anything relating to quilts, quilting or even simply containing the word "quilt."

Upon entering, your haiku along with your AP name will be posted to the quilt-block of your choosing.  Once a quilt-block has been selected it is no longer available--If you feel to reserve a spot please do so by entering a post titled by your quilt-square choice.  Though I'll do my best to keep up with posting, I am only available sporadically throughout the day and most evenings.  Therefore, please review other entries to be certain the quilt-block has not been reserved.

THE CONTEST RULES:
1.  Two-entry limit per-person/Genuine AP personality only please.  If to reserve a spot, please only reserve ONE spot at a time in order to keep it fair for all members.
2.  IMPORTANT--Three-lined haiku only--(No haiku-chains this contest...Sorry).  No single line of your haiku should exceed 25-characters in length--(including spacing between words, "--'s," etc.) in order not to misalign formatting.
3.  IMPORTANT--Please title your entry by the quilt-block number designated.  You may edit your haiku title on your individual post following close of this contest, but it will be far easier for purposes of this contest if simply titled by the number designated.
4.  Although you may post a background/image aside from the white background of this Contest-Page and the quilt-block to your entry, only your haiku will be posted to the quilt-block of your choosing below.
5.  No bashing any other person by entry and/or commentary.
6.  Be creative, be original and HAVE FUN!!!

THE AWARDS-REWARDS:
TROPHY + 300 POINTS
TROPHY + 200 POINTS
TROPHY + 100 POINTS
+ MANY  AWARDS-REWARDS!

The quilt-blocks are posted below.  Looking forward to the colorful, creative and unique entries you will be entering to the Haiku-Patchwork Quilt Contest-Project!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on October 21, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 27 people
  • Final notes:
Thank you all for the wonderful entries to this contest. I really was impressed by the diversity of haiku drawn to these quilt-blocks ranging from some of the most sentimental to the most fun and everything in-between--Much as the patches of quilt-scrap fabrics. The haiku-quilt posted to this page was but a draft for the completed quilt which may be viewed at the following post:

    http://allpoetry.com/column/2338702.

Each stitched-word of your haiku created this quilt-masterpiece!

The Gold, Silver and Bronze Trophy winners are as follows with HM awards-rewards to the remainder of entries in no particular order:

G--"HAIKU #11/WINTER SUNRISE" BY LOTUS OF LAKSHMI
    S--"HAIKU #1" BY ANDREWHIDE
    B--"HAIKU #29" BY AZURE85

Thank you all again for these entries. The contest was a lot of fun and I will be featuring other such contests again soon!

    Jo

    Excellent Idea

What a wonderful Idea for Contest. brought back so many memories. I remember watching My Mother sitting at her Quilting Frame creating patterns out of her head and it was amazing how soon they became a full size Quilt, some of these patterns reminded me so much of Her, I wish you good luck with your contest. Thanks for allowing mw to be a part of it.

This makes my day so happy(today is Saraswati puja for us - on this day we worship the Goddess of knowledge and ask for Her blessings.
