Alone

One of the most spiritual experiences I've had were in a dark cell where the world forgot I existed. What would life write upon the tablet of your heart if you were here, alone in this cell?

I've done years in solitary confinement. Just me and the cell...and God.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 4, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 150, Bronze: 75, Honorable mention: 9 people
  • Final notes:
It took several hours of reading and rereading 7 poems to see which would be in the first three places. I am not a learned writer, so I imagine I missed some skills that would better allow me to objectively judge any contest, but I had to judge it by experience. Experience from an insider's point of view, and assess what is important to me in life, and how well someone plumbed the inner struggles and realizations that one encounters from spending a long while in solitary confinement.
Thanks one and all for the entries.

      Thanks Scott

Hope you can contribute. You understand the steps from the inside-out, so I suspect you understand the image. The real prison is the one we construct for ourselves (and some of us don't have a clue we're not free...like te Matrix).

Interesting and different, guess it would depend entirely upon what one was accused of. The spiritual aspect made me think of Mandela, what a guy, imprisoned for his beliefs yet he never lost sight of them and effected a positive change in a peaceful and positive way, despite being falsely imprisoned for years. What a guy! Good luck with the contest.

      and the Irish

and the Chinese and and and...people packed in without reference to their soul. They can wrap and trap the body, but God is still the music of the Inner Child. They couldn't steal my innocence. Thanks for the comment.

        And the English...
Perhaps there is not a creed or culture where there has not been injustice? If one reads Amnesty International it makes for appalling reading but at least they are able to let the world know.
Thank the lord for journalists such as the one that risked his own life to let the world know about Steve Biko. Those that are in the war zones broadcasting the reality for all and for all to see.
All the best and well done for not assuming a mantle of blame falsely cast.

I could probably write for this very well if I have the time considering at different times both my husband and my son were in prison. Time I think to contemplate Be well and be blessed
