Where does your mind wander while you stand in line at the Super Market?
We want to feel as though we are inside your head while you wait.
Rules:
No end line rhyme
Left align
Screw the word limit! I don't need no stankin' word limit.
monochromatic background
no pictures please
Gill and I both appreciate a sparse use of adjectives and a brevity of language.
We also appreciate the use of metaphor, imagery and alliteration.
We both value creativity in both language and concept.
As this contest extends for two full weeks we will appreciate
those who take the time to fine tune their work before posting.
Feel free to tweak right up until judging commences.
Depending on quality of entries, points may be added for honorable mentions.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on October 18, 2007
- Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 500, Bronze: 300
- Final notes:
Gillian and I are very grateful for the wonderful turn out of poetry in this contest.
We both agreed that in the judging process it was important that we actually felt as though we had just experienced the grocery line with you. We also wanted the poetic integrity of the piece (imagery, poetic device, concise appropriate language) to be employed.
We feel the top three in this contest best met each of those criteria.
But that said- there are many many really great pieces in this contest and we both highly encourage each of you to read through and comment. I did notice that several of you have already done exactly that- and i always admire that.
1. monimac
2. rebeka
3. misselaineous
Thank you all so much.

ooooh...

I really love that image.
-
In line, the papers, faces,
stare with lives and wonder.
Myself I only wait. -
-
eyes blend
the packages
blurring reality
until the harsh
squeak of another
gimpy wheel
brings me back. -
-
An elbow, jars,
the voices merge,
fingers fly
efficiently
to tally the total on keys
The woman smiles, unmoved,
holds out hands, expectant,
and states again,
that's all?

Thank ya ladies! I read through all the entries, though I haven't yet had a chance to comment on more than a handful, so I know that this was pretty stiff competition.
Congrats to all, and thanks again for the inspiration and gold cup!
