Of Condors, Pumas & Lizards

Machu Picchu by Trapac

Here you see pictured the lone tree in the courtyard next to the tail of this flying lizard as it clambers out of the Vicanota River at the bottom of the abyss towards the crouching Puma overlooking the Lost City of the Incas.

Who was this mythical creature, thought to represent the oldest being on earth, whose body is sculpted in the stonework of Machu Picchu? The Incas knew him as "A mythical son of the water, lord of land and air, generator of life, provider of food, mother of condors and of pumas."*

Machu Picchu lay unknown except through legend for hundreds of years until it was discovered in the last century. Tell us about "the Citadel," as it is called, the traditional birthplace of the Inca people and the spiritual center of the "virgins of the sun." ~ wiki

Your poem could wind up in a photographic collection celebrating the World Wonders.

Thanks, I am not an expert on this and am relying on the photographer's research in the book cited; perhaps the leader/person took his name after the mythical creature?

At any rate, the inspiration to research this and poetically do what you would like to do with Machu Picchu is open for interpretation. Hope to see something from you.

I've taken the name of Amaru Tupac out of the contest description for now and hope to see poems incorporating some aspect of the mythology of the condor, puma and lizard that can be found within the stonework of Machu Picchu.

I am trying to educate myself on the Incas and the Machu picchu but did not find much on the puma and lizard just something on the condor which is thougth to be a godly symbol for "cruel justice".
I hope the contest will stay opened I should be ready tomorow at around 2 PM GMT in around 15 hours.
In any case it is a very interesting subject to research. Thank you for the idea.
