The Mother-In-Law Haiku Contest

THE MOTHER-IN-LAW HAIKU CONTEST
(DEDICATED TO AP'S NEWEST MOM-IN-LAW, AZURE85/SUSIE)

As a brand-new mother-in-law as of 8/12/07, this contest is dedicated to Azure85/Susie, as well as co-hosted with her.

Anyway, Susie and I were thinking mother-in-laws may get a bad rap.  Some are very sweet and unintrusive, just like Susie and me, but then there are others like my EX mom-in-law and my EX almost-mom-in-law...Well, we won't go there except to say I did once write a haiku about a toothless female dog snarling!

As entries to this contest, please post haiku 17 syllables-or-less of anything pertaining to mother-in-laws, whether it be the mother-in-law of your past, present or future, or even a mother-in-law figment of your imagination.

THE RULES:

1.  Two-entry limit per-person/Genuine AP personality only please.  Haiku-chains are considered ONE entry, so feel free to post a second entry, even a second haiku-chain entry if you so choose.

2.  AP marital relationships are recognized for purposes of this contest, so if you have an AP husband/wife who has an AP mother, or if you are an AP mother of an AP child who is AP married, bring it on!

3.  No senseless bashing of any other person by entry and/or commentary.  When it comes to this haiku-theme, please keep it humorous but not unnecessarily cruel, violent or over-the-top mean-spirited--Afterall, this is someone's MOM you are writing about.

4.  HAVE FUN!!!

THE AWARDS-REWARDS:
TROPHY + 300 POINTS
TROPHY + 200 POINTS
TROPHY + 100 POINTS
+
MANY  AWARDS-REWARDS!

Looking forward to your Mother-In-Law Haiku Contest entries!
Jo and
Susie

P.S:  Jo wishes to confess that last time she checked their flapping lips, both the EX and EX almost-mother-in-laws' dogs had full sets of choppers!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on October 15, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 15 people
  • Final notes:
Unknown to all of you, Susie and I had left it to Susie's new son-in-law, Mike, to judge this contest. Here is a portion of the message Susie passed on to me this morning with his winning choices--(I know you'll all love his side-notes to these selections!):

    "Hi Jo!

Here are the three haiku my son-in-law Mike picked. He says thank you for the honor of choosing the winner-he got the winner with my daughter! (what a guy!)

MIL HAIKU CHAIN--BY SCARLET O--That could be us one day.

FOLDED HANDS, HEAD BOWED SENYRU--BY THELORDREIGNS--I know she does this for us.

ALL GREEK TO ME--BY MOMMYOF2--This is funny, but mine understands Spanish!"

As well as the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards, there are HM awards-rewards for the remainder of entries. Thank you all again for a wonderful and fun-filled contest!

    Jo and Susie

I loved my mother-in-law. Her birthday and my Mom's were one day apart. She was a precious jewel and I miss her sorely. I can see her in my husband's eyes. Great idea! I am bookmarking. haiku is my favorite form, the first I learned to write, the first I teach to children.

    I'll be back!

Much Love & Many Blessings ♥

YIKES!! You can have an AP mom-in-law?

I think we should have All Poetry nuns. How about All Poetry Peace Corp. They would only write nature poems. I don't even know why I am saying all this. I'll try to think of a ku, though.

Thank ya, thank ya, thank ya

I would like to thank Jo, Susie and Mike (especially) for feeling this was gold worthy. My mom in law is the sweetest and most compassionate woman I know. Her humor is even with mine, so we laugh a lot. I enjoyed writing something nice for her for she is so deserving of this trophy, not me. Thanks to all of you for having this contest and for the inspiration to say what should be said at times.

Scarlet, if you don't send your Mom-in-Law a copy of your entry along with the comments and these Contest-Page notes, I will! Yours was one of the most loving tributes that could be paid anyone, especially a mother-in-law.

Thank you again for your entry and CONGRATULATIONS!

      Jo
