I myself am Heaven and Hell

All of my previous contests have been decidedly open to pre-writes. I think its rather strange how people think of them. They’re treated like old, unwanted things, shied away from and loathed like an exhibitionist leper. It’s as if they were an insult to their person and one's own possibly non-existent creativity. I mean how dare I not write a new poem for every person I meet on the Internet? How dare I!?

But now I will exercise my right as an all-powerful Allpoetry judge and require fresh writes. Not only that, I think I'll go for a dip into self-absorption…

As for the point and purpose of this contest. (I love how the things we do must have point and purpose, names and dates, so we can substitute a senseless reality with a series of artificially immediate situations: I must go to the grocery store now! because there is no more Kool-aid… my children will starve!) Church starts at ten so I will be there at 9:53! I have to anticipate walking, door opening, chaste fraternizing and a potential donut! Mmm donuts, I hope they’re strawberry fucking filled.) Ooh, that was a big ramble.

Okay, here it is though.

I should like it very much if even one person (which is more than I deserve) would look at a painting or a poem there and write a poem of it. Whether that means you hated it, loved it, or whatever it is you felt or thought, just your response to its meaning.

Like my poems, I keep most things to myself and choose somewhat indiscriminately what to show on the Internet. My work is my own and I hold it such, where it matters.

So have fun and be as critical as you like. I promise I will not vituperate. This is the one contest where I will probably play nice, as I would consider any effort an amusing thing to see.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on October 5, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 300, Bronze: 200, Honorable mention: 6 people
  • Final notes:
Thanks all for being apart of this contest. It was lovely to see all of your poems.

The top 4 were particularly interesting and it was rather difficult to make a decision. I think I have chosen well though.

I appreciate all the entries and, in truth, I think I can actually say that I enjoyed them all. This is the first contest where I can say that. Peace.

I sometimes allow pre-writes for the reason that it's nice to let old poems out again to breathe but it's taxing as a host because people just throw anything in with little regard for what the host is asking for, as in author's comments.

For me, it's more fun and worthwhile to inspire something new and is more likely something I will relate to. Nice deviant art account. ♥

That is true. Anything for a trophy eh? Its not like people start contests with intent to actually read good poetry... wait...

      And thank you :]

Haha I love (and agree) with what you say about prewrites, at least you explained yourself unlike some people who seem to be prejudiced against the poor things!!

    Take care and good luck
