The Pantoum Challenge

The most important thing for me in poetry are the words. I love amazing stories and writes filled with emotions. I love dark writes and sadness, but also hold unique poems of love close to my heart. I love poems that begin with one emotion and end with the opposite one. But then again, I love a lot of things.

Write me something unique that can only be heard from your heart. Write me something I have never read before and amaze me with your thoughts. It can be of any theme you desire, though erotica has always been on my list of dislikes.

The twist, you ask?

It must be in Pantoum form:
http://members.cox.net/berniehpoetry/type/pantoum.html

As a beginner of this particular form, I am not looking for perfection. Try your very hardest and write me something I will definately enjoy reading. The most important thing about writing is, after all, to have fun and try new things to widen our world of imagination.

Rules are as follows:

- No chatspeak, all caps or any kind of strange typing.

- Remember to label your poem correctly.

- Respect the readers and keep profanity and cursing away from your poetry.

- Respect the fellow writers and give them respectful comments and criticism without bashing or profanity.

- Make sure you use the proper instructions to write a Pantoum (it does have to be a Pantoum in order to win this contest). If you are unsure of this form or have any questions concerting this contest, feel free to IM me.

- In your author's notes, write down your username and add the name of / the link to your very best poem. After this contest is over, I will read and comment on each of these poems in order to find new people to my favorites list. You will not be DQ:ed if you don't follow this rule, as it is more of a suggestion than a rule.

I will read and comment on each entry during or after the contest, depending how much time I have to be used on this. As this is my very first contest, I am also testing how much of my day it really takes, so bare with me and my long work hours.

I reserve the right to close or continue this contest at/for any point or any reason I see fit. I also reserve the right to DQ any entry I do not see fit for this contest.

With all this said, I wish you all the bestest of moments of writing. Let your muse amaze me!

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on September 30, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 600, Bronze: 400, Honorable mention: 6 people
  • Final notes:
You really ended up making my first contest a tough one... I've spent the whole day trying to put your poems in order and now, finally got it done.

Even though I didn't get a huge amount of entries in this contest, I was amazed by the quality of them. Some entries were better than others, of course, but all of them held something inside that I liked. For this reason, I decided to give out 3 extra honorable mentions (6 in total). Good job, all of you!

The trophies went to the poems that touched me the most when I read them. They are the poems that I've read time and time again, never getting tired of reading them. There were a lot of such entries in this contest, really, so all I could do was pick my favorites from them. Those that meant the most to me.

Thank you all for entering this contest and working such well written poetry for me to read. I enjoyed all the pieces a lot!

When I first time saw a Pantoum, I thought I'd never be able to write something like that. But when I tried it out, I was hooked, you could say. It's an interesting form that you have to work on fairly much to make it work. I really respect writers who are able to pull through with such a poem.

Good luck to you with the contest; I'm sure you'll do wonderfully!

It is a beautiful poem and one of those I seriously had problems with because I didn't know at what point to put it. I liked it too much... lol

Thanks for entering the contest and making it a good one!
