If music could speak to poetry, what would it say?
Both mediums communicate through sound, and the most effective poetry makes use of sound to express meaning not only through language, but through the musicality of language.
Free verse is my preference for this contest because it allows the poet to create his/her own rhythm.
I will accept form & rhyme if the result is uniquely musical. If I think I've heard this song before, the poem will not place.
I would love to read about any inspiration by a type of music, band, or song in your author notes, but it is not a requirement.
Good luck!

- Contest was judged on September 8, 2007
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 150, Bronze: 50
- Final notes: Thank you all for entering. Many of you wrote rhyming poetry with a great deal of adjectives. I was looking for something unique & the winners achieved it. However, I enjoyed reading all of the entries and a few came very close. I would be glad to see any of you in my next contest.
- To judge this contest, you need to have at least as many finalists as you have rewards. You have 3 awards but only 2 finalists.

Oh, musicality in the writing... dah! I stopped at "music communicating with the words" and went from there... yes, one needs a musical mind to write poetry that sings... now that I think about it, a really musical write will have dynamic contrasts, a certain structure, and a bit of repetition...
