1st spot - one night one fire by Log , Ed
knows how to make the night come alive - go read
2nd spot - a very close second came Koncrete Kanticle by Lute .. he makes the lonely night and rain coarse through our bones
3rd spot - buy me another by misselaineous, Elaine has portrayed a woman, whom i think many of us may have been or know at some point .. terrific stuff
I decided to give two HM's too... as both Richard and Shewolf both captured the essence well
it was a close run thing
many thanks to all for entering

love this piece by him...

I've always wondered why that diner is called "Phillies" when "Fillies" would bring in so many more customers. I mean, there's only two guys and one girl at the counter. What's with that? Now, if you call the place "Fillies," you're bound to attract one or two extra mustangs, maybe even a gelding fondly recalling better days, and then the place would be swinging and the guy behind the counter might even be wearing a swankier outfit.
I swear, some artists really need to focus on the right subject matter. He should have painted Hyde in Hollywood instead. Or at least Scores in New York. THAT would have been a masterpiece... -

sorry
naaaaayyyyyy, not you.. not the MonteGodSEXkittenofthebays

erm hello
on another note, was just watching a documentory on Tony Wilson, who died the other week... the stuff on Joy Division and the Happy's made me smile ...
Peter Hook was his normal irrasicible self.. it was sad, lovely, witty and of course ... all about Mr Manchester -
-
I didn't realize Tony Wilson died? He couldn't have been that old. Hell, there's a reason Steve Coogan played him in 24 Hour Party People. What did he die of?

Great contest, could not write fast enough...
Insomniacs, Night Hawks and Owls
I can never sleep when the time comes to close my eyes.
Nothing seems to work including warm milk disguised.
Sober and quiet, I try to still myself to sleep,
Only to have my mind begin to churn and to think.
Memories flash before my closed lids like a slide show.
Nocturnal I never reach beta, nor R.E.M. an unlikely foe.
Insistent is the racing of a brain frazzled with lack of rest.
Anarchy reigns in total confusion all gnarly, full of zest.
Chaos lengthens the slide into a bad “B” western movie
Sand man, oh please come to see me, your oldest arch enemy?
Next the minutes move to morning in the stillness of the night.
Instant replay is all I get to see behind closed sore eyes.
Ghostly shadows play on the blinds as finally I stare,
Hitting the alarm clock and cursing it’s proud greenish glare.
Tombs could not be as quiet as this stillness in shadows.
However much I try to grab some winks with stiffened toes.
Another hour ticks by as the damn clock clicks three thirty,
Wading out of the covers and pillows I find I’m thirsty.
Kegs of beer might put the mind at ease but for a hefty cost,
So into the cold air I walk, not aware of streets I cross …
A loud horn brings me out of my stupor
Nerve wracking as hell, retching bad humor,
Dodging this frightened, foul mouthed consumer …
Onward I wander until the dawn splits the sky,
Wondering where I am at and quite frankly why?
Lack of slumber my most unwelcome companion,
Sinister slowness finds my way back home again.
