Write me an image-driven poem in which every space, every word, every letter, every mark of punctuation counts. Nothing superfluous, nothing forced, nothing awkwardly strained. Tight. Focused. Controlled.
Free verse or form—but either way, no padding to make rhythm, rhyme, or meter work.
Grammar, spelling, punctuation—either follow the conventions scrupulously or break them clearly, consciously, and consistently.
Plain background.
Length: 5-15 lines

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on August 30, 2007
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 3 people
- Final notes: It’s fascinating to see how the same instructions can result in so many different visions. I appreciate the time and effort that went into each of the entries. The qualitative differences among the poems, especially those I selected for trophies, were small; the enjoyment in reading, thinking about, and working with all the poems large. Thank you all.
