Below are nearly the exact same options I gave for the contest "Wow Me With One Word" when it was held by me last year. I was impressed with the entries last time, but I want even better! I would advise you to read the options before you enter because they are important. =]
I am too lazy to think of a new contest right now, but I want something to read tomorrow and I have over 4000 points to waste, so I am setting this up and possibly more contests later. =] If you know of any good contests I can enter please message them to me because I fail to find many interesting ones lately! ^_^
Options
FOR ALL OPTIONS YOU MUST Write about a word [or a name] that is important to you, describes you, that you feel has a lot of significance in general, OR make up your own word. You can also pick a word you DON'T like or you see as being evil or good[heavenly] or even confusing and explain why. Any word really, as long as the write follows the rules.. [Even a 1 letter word]
BUT there are different ways that you may do so.
One Acrostic. ^_^ Self Explanitory..
Example : My post > One Word To Define All My Emotions Explosions of Emotions [Eroding Ecstacy?]
Two Write a poem using the word as your title, but NEVER mention it in the poem itself. For an example google > Chicago by Carl Sandburg < The title is Chicago, but the word is never mentioned in the poem and it is not directly hinted to by known elements of it.
Three Write at least 4 lines and on one line have the word BY ITSELF. Use any title you want.
Four Write a haiku.
vFive Make a clear statement in your title about what the word means. VERY CLEAR. At least 4 words in the title if you can possibly do that, but whatever you wish. If a word is enough, than it is enough.
Six Use another special technique or type of poetry.
Seven Shape Poetry. For an example see my poem on the page that says (120-150)
Eight Begin every line with your word, or at least use it in every line.
Nine Write your poem entirely in only questions.
Ten Dialoge : Two people discussing something associated to your word. [For example: A duet of two lovers or two friends if the word is related or a student and a teacher etc.]
Eleven Numbers are words too as you can see from my option labeling. ^.^ Choose a number that you believe is significant and use it.
Extra points ( I might even give you free points =] ) if it is a count down poem
Or if it has the same number of lines as your number is.
Twelve Make your word the first and last line of your poem.
Thirteen Match your background [and/or colors] to your main idea [your word].
OR
Fourteen Choose a color, song, picture, story (etc..) for your word and tell me why it is that color, song, picture, story or whatever it is you chose to use. [ even a material item like a piece of jewerly or a musical instrument. Be Creative.]
Fifteen Choose a word you believe symbolizes hell. [You can use love, but it is kind of cliche to say love is hell. If you do, I will either LOVE it or really strongly dislike it, depending on how well you write the poem.]
Sixteen Write a description so passionate [or simple and deep] that I can't help but be amazed by your talented creativity.
Seventeen Use a word in a different language and tell me why it is so much better than a word in any other. ^.^
If you read the rules then type "Purple monkeys fly at night" in your author comments.
By the way, if you can capture my attention in ONE sentence, try.
Gold : 700 AT LEAST
Silver : 350 AT LEAST
Bronze : 150 AT LEAST
Honorable Mention: At Least Two
Enter as many times as your heart desires.
Pre-writes are fine as long as they fit an option.
Please try not to be 100% profane.
Erotica is allowed & anything else including cutting.
I don't care if it rhymes or is free verse, or if it is a song or a story, but use a lot of emotion in your write. Enter as many times as you want to. I WILL BE SURE TO MAKE HONEST AND POLITE COMMENTS ON EACH POEM AND I PROMISE I WILL MAKE SURE I AM VERY CLEAR AND TAKE A LOT OF TIME TO LOOK OVER THEM ALL. Have fun. That's all. =]
