Most people are not fond of metal music, it is often criticized. But people don't see that it is not simply noise. No there is much talent in those bands. But we're not concerned with the instruments, at least not for this contest. Here we are concerned with the lyrics.
So here's the deal, if you want in, let me know. Message me, and I'll provide you with a quote from a metal song. Don't ask me what kind of metal, I pretty much listen to it all. Oh and I can't guarantee that the quote will be in English either, but if it is in a foreign language I'll provide a translation. I will say this, I promise that the quotes will have poetic quality.
Once you have your quote, construct a poem out of it. It's that simple.
Rules.
1. Spellcheck is your friend, use it.
2. Grammar doesn't have to be perfect, but make it passable.
3. Put the quote, song name, and band name in your author's comments, I will provide all of those for you.
4. The quote does not have to be directly in your poem, as long as I can tell that the poem was formed around it.
All I want from this contest is to show my fellow poets that even the most brutal and heavy music can be beautiful. Something need not be soft to stir emotions.
First place will win 500 points.
Second will win 300 points.
Third prize is 200 points.
I will give out 3 Honorable mentions. Unless I feel more are deserving in which case I'll give out as many as I see fit.
I do hope you enjoy this.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on September 3, 2007
- Rewards: Gold: 500, Silver: 300, Bronze: 200, Honorable mention: 3 people
- Final notes: I'm terribly sorry it took me so long to judge this. I just got a computer here in my dorm room yesterday, and all the computer access I had prior to that was strictly homework related...ugh this much homework in college already, it's what I get for taking 18 hours worth of classes.
I was impressed with some of these entries, in particular the ones that got gold and silver, I was very swept up in those. The rest were good, but not as...how to say it...entrapping as those two, especially the winner. Congratulations to all of you and best of luck in any future poetry related endeavors.

I love metal, my fave is goth metal or women of metal, strictly female singers that front a metal band

NIGHTWISH<3<3<3<3 I remember I checked out your page coz your name has "Amaranth" in it and well yeah, that's the title of a new Nightwish song XD I agree with you though, strictly female-fronted metal is without a doubt THEE best.
