PitBull on a HatBox

I'd like to thank Mary Cat for agreeing to join me on this one:

and you might ask, what is this one?

- Pitbull on a Hatbox

well, here it is:

We want your best poetry.

about poetry, making poetry, in love with poetry:

like a pitbull on a hatbox, we want your ferocious love and your style

Poetry about writing, writing about Poetry.

We do not, however, want people just posting any old stuff, nor do we want people

to post early trying to win a "race"

Please, please, please take your time and think about this one

Inspiration for You All:

"A poet is, before anything else, a person who is passionately in love with language."

- W.H. Auden

"To see a world in a grain of sand and heaven in a wild flower Hold infinity in the palms of your hand and eternity in an hour."

- William Blake

"Most writers of verse have several different personalities. The ideal is to find a style or a method that includes them all."

- Ted Hughes

"Show me a man who lives alone and has a perpetually clean kitchen, and 8 times out of 9 I'll show you a man with detestable spiritual qualities. "

- Charles Bukowski

Rules:

We mostly prefer left aligned poems please

We do not like end-line rhyme, unless it's the dog's bollocks

We want to see your best work, so don't rush to post

Watch your grammar and spellings

Use various manner of poetic devices to tell your story

Speak to us in the language of Poetry

THANK YOU

Gillian & Mary

Judging Process

Please bare with us...  ...... things have been hectic

this will be judged ASAP

many thanks

G & M

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on August 1, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 600, Bronze: 200, Honorable mention: 2 people
  • Final notes:
Myself and Mary would like to thank everyone for partaking in our contest and Mary wished me to add on the final notes, that she'd read every entry several times, and even though her comments were a little short, we did discuss the entries behind the scenes to come to our final decision.

The top three trophies wiggled and jiggled to get to their spots and we enjoyed how each of the top three were different yet unleashed what we wanted from the contest

1st Klimt Colours - this is what poetry colours

2nd Crooked cocks at dawn - this explodes with brilliant imagery and story telling

3rd The Novellist - how acerbic life can be from a battered writer

HM's to Don't take the moom
    17 crystal steps

both sparked our imaginations and made us ponder

    please read the winners

MANY THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO ENTERED

    G & M x

    i used to

smoke drawn in like sea's mississippi suck
spewing cirrus clouds, hurricanes, and twisters
    whole atmospheres to stain everything about me;

my fingers grew calloused from the burning.

Now I chew like a cow in a field, sucking
little drips while wearing out my jaw. Addicted,
unromantic, full of wet noise, and my fingers

    have come clean.

    >^..^

I know im totally gonna get pwned but I was sitting on this idea an a few stanzas ever since this contest came out. I just gave it all I could, I wasn't even going to enter because I felt like it wasn't finished. There were even a few times I was going to start completely over again but I didn't want to let the opportunity get away. Sorry if you don't like it.
