Ok, so I'm British and this week we've had a foiled car bomb attack in London, and a burning car being driven into Glasgow airport. Our terror level has been changed to 'critical' for the first time in a long time.
So, what does this mean? How does it make you feel? What are your immeadiate reaction when you hear this on the news? You don't even have to be British to be effected by these events, this contest isn't focused on the week we've had here, we are all victims to this terrorism that is plaguing the world at the moment.
I don't want racist, anti-religious, offensive poetry.
I want your opinions, reactions to it. Do you even belive it's as bad as it's made to be in the media, or do you feel it's over reported?
Obviously, politically themed poems are fine, it's probably hard to avoid, but I really want opinions and reactions to it. Let yourself go, write what you want, but please no 'bashing' or offensive, it is not welcomed, and will be removed.
I'm allowing pre-writes here, but I'd rather no previous winnering poems, unless you feel it neccesary to enter.
Again, no racism!! and be careful not to offend please
Other then that, any form, view or opinion is welcome!

im not going to put any real effort into this, the terrorists don't deserve the time of day, quite frankly!

lol, I know what you mean, they don't deserve our thoughts or time, but sadly, they take up a lot of both.
Say whatever you feel is worthy, even if it is a one verse rant, full off cusses and anger!

Hi, I am English too,am pleased to find this contest and a forum for our concerns. One of my heroines is Gill Hicks, who,as a result of the terrorist attack in London on 7/7/05 had to have both of her feet amputated and since recovering has campaigned peacefully for peace intitiatives ans supports the Leonard Cheshire Home for the Disabled. Not only have we lived under the shadow of terrorism for many years due to the IRA terrorist campaigns responsible for 3,000 civilian deaths and countless left disabled and or with PTSD but we remain with the same wonderful spirit as Gill Hicks and seek to detect, protect, deal and heal.Whether the terrorism is within our glorious green gardens or a neighbours I hope and pray for a cessation to mans inhumanity to man.

I was actually going to consider starting a contest on this theme... good thing I looked around first!
Anyway, I definately want to enter this as soon as possible ... I have alot to say about this topic but just not alot of ways to structure it. I might not enter in the end but I'm definately watching this. ^^;;

What I find interesting is the media acting like this is a 'new' thing. In the last 500 years, the longest London has gone without a bomb going off has been 3 years.
As an Irish Londoner, I remember the prejudice and fear that went with the sectarian violence of the 1970s-1980s. Many people in the US are still unaware of it/saw it as a 'holy war' and even helped fund it. To me, it was pretty damn similar to what happens now - but on a more frequent scale. I heard bombs go off, saw police raids in my street and remember lessons on how to tell if a parcel was a letter bomb. I remember the funny looks, the bag searches, the muttering ... and the assumption that my family and myself were pro-terrorism because of our ethnicity. For that reason, I am very careful with my reactions to the terror; many people are swift to forget how they labelled a whole nation 20 years ago, and have started labelling a whole religion for more or less the same reasons.
Hate and labels won't stop this. The terrorists, whether brainwashed or evil, do not represent their whole community. Their acts hurt everyone; even those who, in their twisted minds, they think they represent. -

I totally share your sentiments here, London has always been under attack from one form of terrism, but the way it is now reported on makes it seem we've never been bombed before.
It also makes me sick when people blame a whole race/religion. It's a shame some are so ignorant that they have to think this.
Thank you for your comment, it was good to hear from someone who has been persecuted just for being the same race as terrorists, it seems there are so many more victims to terrorism then it is first apparant.
