Eternal Newness - a quote inspired poetry contest

 

 

 

This is not a "quickie" contest. I am looking for poetry that is more than a first draft! 

 

Please respond poetically (using imagery and emotion) to the following quotation by Ralph Waldo Emerson taken from his journals written in 1844:

"Poetry must be as new as foam
and as old as a rock."

 

Your poem does not have to be about poetry. It can be about love, ideas, spirituality - you get the idea.

 

Here are the rules:

 

Please spell-check.

Please be creative and deep.

No profanity or offensive subjects.

No religion bashing please.

Poems can rhyme or be free-verse.

Poems must be longer than 20 lines.

    All the poems in this contest were excellent. I am so honored to have all you fine poets writing for me although I know it is not me you are writing for. But I am honored and thrilled anyway.

    This was so hard to judge. The top four poems were so close in points I really had to make the final placings by my heart.
