Three Rounds in Three Weeks

I enjoy rounds contests and the challenge of writing different types of poems with the same group of authors.

I am going to host a rounds contest of three different types of form poetry. Each contest will be open for one week and I will judge them within a day of closing. Therefore if you commit to this rounds contest you will only be investing three weeks instead of the months that many rounds contests require.

In addition, any poet who submits a qualifying poem in round one will automatically move on the next rounds. There will be no eliminations.

Each round will be judged separately with three regular trophies and two honorable mentions.

In the first round you will be asked to write:

a NONET

A nonet has nine lines. The first line has nine syllables, the second line eight syllables, the third line seven syllables, etc... until line nine that finishes with one syllable. It can be on any subject and rhyming is optional.

You may enter a single nonet or a nonet chain.

For examples of all the poetry types mentioned in this contest please go to:

http://www.shadowpoetry.com/resources/wip/types.html

The second round will be a constanza.
The third round will be a septolet.

I will explain more about each of these forms when the contests are posted.

Each contest will have a theme so please do not write your constaza and septolet in advance of the prompt.

The prompt for the nonet is SUMMER. It can be about the weather, vacations, the ocean, or anything that makes your summer unique.

Good luck and have fun.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 30, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 3 people
  • Final notes:
Thank you for your wonderful nonets. I enjoyed reading each of them. I chose the winners on the content of their poem, the subject matter chosen, and finally the shape. The perfect nonet should have a triangular shape, not an easy feat to achieve. Tomorrow I will post the second round in this contest, and I hope all sixteen of you will enter a rictameter. Enjoy your weekend. Peace to all, Liz

Liz, This was fun to do and I look forward to the second round. I have only done a couple of nonets now and doing this one did bring back some wonderful memories. My heartiest congratulations go out to the winners and all who participated. Everyone should take a bow for a job well done and give a cheer for our hostess. Love and God bless all of you, Joyce
