We've also realized that through the years, our favorites has gone untended. Many have left, some never post, most simply don't comment or interact, as we are guilty of the same. But, most importantly, the stage in which our writing lies now is screaming for inspiration, for the chance to be pushed into the next phase. We can't carry it there alone.
We've both emptied our favorites list of every name (with the exception of real-life family) and are hosting this contest in the hopes of filling it again with poets who inspire and who can find equal inspiration in our own work. Please feel free to scan our work (but don't comment, that's not what our aim is here) to see if we write in such a way that represents where you are, where you would like to go, or simply a way in which a word or title, or contest even, inspires you to write. In turn, we hope that the entries we receive are those which inspire us, with a tone, a word, a stanza, the heart behind it all. It's the mutual give-and-take that keeps a community solid and effective, and that's our ultimate goal here.
We hope old friends will enter, as we hope we discover a variety of new ones as well. And we also wish to make clear that many of you are aware wether or not you were once on our favorites and, though you may not find your way there again, it is not because you don't write well or aren't a nice person, but is dependant upon where we all are in the evolution of our own writing, and how we can effectively push each other to always move forward.
This will be an exciting contest for us, as we hope to see many faces we're very familiar with, and those whom we don't know at all. We hope to find inspiration. To read your work and feel driven to write in return. But ultimately, we hope there's an interaction, a connection between us that causes us to pick up our pens and write.
This is not an anonymous contest, simply because we'll be commenting on all your poems, and would like for you to interact with us in return. Although blind judging is great, and has its uses (which I've indulged in many times since the upgrade), it may be incapable, in this case, of helping to foster a sense of community for us, which is part of our goal as well. My gold membership is only good for a week, lol, so please put your user name and a link to your author page in your notes.
Please, give us an inspired piece of writing, something into which we can really sink our teeth. If we feel the urge to write a poem of our own after reading your entry, you've more than done your job.
Though we are both fans of free verse, form poetry is accepted if that suits your genre, and is something from which you can draw inspiration and through which you can inspire others. We simply ask you avoid ABAB quatrain rhyme, as it's unfortunately just not to our tastes.
Thank you. We can't wait to get started!

- Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 500, Bronze: 500, Honorable mention: 46 people

HM are in no particular order but reflects that we appreciated everyone's efforts on our behalfs.

Cool. Hope you find lots of new favorites, and continue on with some old ones too.
-
-
I hope you'll give the contest a shot

Well, I stopped in the middle of what I was doing, just to read this, because yes, you're that important. Onerios too.

Nicole, seriously, (not sucking up for anyone who might be reading this
)I credit a lot of my growth to you and Blkwidow77. You remember the first contest I entered of yours? I do. I wrote aryhming poem called something like..Silver Tears or soemthing. Anyways, that's besides the point. The point is, that even though you're a tough cookie, you've helped me come a long way.
For that reason, I look forward to writing something especially for this contest.
PS. Onerios13, you're amazing too. I just had to put this little speech out there.
-
-
I was thrilled to read your comment, and was exactly what I needed to hear to know we are going in the right direction with this contest. I'm really looking forward to your entry.

Ive personally have been impressed by
both your writing talents...and that is an honest observation I take seriously.....I also know we all evolve in things we share of our thoughts....I truly dont believe you need us to show you the way...perhaps you show us the way.....as for my writings ablilities haha....we wont go there.....I guess what I just wanted to say was.....I owe my growth to many talented people here.....and even thought I am tossing my hat in every kind of style and genre...still I have no set form to put my words so grand....and I too hope you find some new inspiring people here to further progress making new inroads to your journey of Poetry.
Ok Ill stfu now...

lol You are too cute for your own good. Yes, I can easily name a dozen people here who are currently inspiring me to write. Though we are all responsible for our own finished works, and can pat ourselves on our own backs for jobs well done, I think it definitely springs from the interaction with others who simply love to write. It's why I like it here so much
-
-
Oh forgot
Im off to write you a superb piece......
in abab format
LOL
Mal -
-
That you're slightly a smartass is always a plus. LOL
-

Oh....and I wont
forget to write that ryhme with lottsa adjectives too
Mally -

LMAO I don't think it would be a complete contest without one of those

-
-
Wow...this has got to be the best idea for a contest I have ever seen. What a great idea!
-
-
Thanks
I hope that means you'll enter! lol
-
-
Christ, with the shit I've been writing lately, I doubt I'll do too well here. But I'll enter anyway just to see what happens.
-
-
Oh shut up and write
-
-
If I can. I'm having difficulties doing so.
-
-
-
One well-done poem coming up!
You two have encouraged and helped me along quite a lot, and I'd say my writing skills are about the half of it. If I didn't McEnter this contest, it would be an affront on my part. My McPoem will be weird, as usual. I've known you both for awhile, though, so you already know I wear big red shoes and believe that imaginary people are trying to steal my sandwiches.
Would you like fries with that?
Please pull up to the second window.

You McBetter enter!
-
-
Well you know me .. I won't enter. .. but I wanted to add to what a lot have already said. The two of you have the ability to push people to excel, which isn't a small thing, and not something to be overlooked.
Being 'inspirational' is a huge thing.. ( and it's improved the quality here, then some ) ..
I think what you're doing is great..
Good luck with it and enjoy..
-
-
Pwease enter
mwahahaha. Begging isn't fair, I know.
-
-
This is a fantastic idea- A little intimidating, but I hope to enter, though I have no disillusion of winning.
Have fun. -S
-
-
Don't be intimidated in the least. I'm sure you can hang with the rest of us
-
-
While I doubt that, I will try anyways.
-
-
-
Who are you?
-
-
We are legion. mwahahahaha
-
-
Wow ten days left... I hope to enter this baby!
-
Hmmmm,
Just the right excuse to write again. Something new, dark, honest, screw the daffodils. -
-
You best git yer ass in here.
-
-
Bah, I need ideas. I have none.
-
are we allowed to enter twice? i want to be serious for once...the first entry was a little diddy stuck in my head from the beginning of my lunch break
-
-
lol Sorry. One entry only. But you can remove the other one if you want and re-enter with a different piece if you prefer
-
-
Oooh.... now this is an interesting one-
I will try to write something for this, but mainly read the entries and see if I can find some new people to read too
This is a really nice contest....exactly the kind of thnig they should be used for-
jess......x -

You best, girl. Or I'll come after ya
-
-
yes abab is so hick simpleton
I might try triplets -
-
Hardly hick simpleton. We just don't like it. I suppose we all have our preferences.
-
-
I love the idea and premise of this contest...great going, girls. I will dig deep! Thanks for the invite, O13!
-
Nice contest idea. Here are a few folks I like to read that aren't necessarily very well known, I think in part because they don't post a huge amount of poems but when they do, I find them to be most enjoyable to read:
editorinchimp
SeanJ
mattimc
Saint Jai
Vieve
Ms Tick
You guys have lots of reading to do ... !

Thanks for the names! I was introduced to Saint Jai through your experimental contest, I believed, and loved everything I read. Seething with jealousy would be a more accurate description of my reaction. lol. I'll have to check out the others. hannahesque is also one I'm familiar with. Tis a shame they don't post that often.

Can't believe I missed this one!
Oh well, I'm sure there'll be others (I hope *gulps*).
Best wishes with the judging ladies.
-
Holy crap.
Thank you so very much. I haven't blushed since winning an AP contest in a very long time.
Thanks. Really.
xo -
-
LOL That's the highest of compliments. Onerios and I were in complete agreement with the winners. I didn't have to beat her over the head with a stick once!
-
-
YEAH! It's true. She didn't even have to beat me over the head cause why should she when the talent was SO obvious?

Congrats!

-
very cool idea on honorable mentions

now i'm off to read some of these entries
-
-
I hope you do. I think you'll find yourself pleasantly occupied with the depth of these entries.

thanks so much
m -
-
You're very welcome. We're glad you entered!
-
-

It is an honor, girls. To place in a contest that brought forth the best of everyone entered is one of the highest compliments one could get at this site.
Thank you.
-
-
No need for the surprise face. lol. Onerios and I both thought you stepped out of the box with this one, and did it well. It deserved the props.

Thanks Girls
It was my honor....congratulations poets...
Thanks for hosting too...
