Hi Brilliant Poets
This contest is about Humanity.
I overheard a conversation between an elderly couple today expressing sadness and anger over society today and how there is no compassion anymore.
I don't want to believe this. I know that my heart is filled with compassion and I know there are many others who feel the same way.
My Grandma always told me never to be rude or look down on anyone because "You never know if a homeless man dressed in rags could be Jesus testing you"
I do not usually speak of personal experiences,
but I have one experience that has always stood out in my mind and ached in my heart.
I have a son who is Autistic. He is an adult now, but when he was a child 3 years of age,
I took him to the doctor for a check up. my son at that age would exhibit all of the classic signs of severe Autism. He would spin objects, clap his hands and flap them while the object was spinning. He would laugh at inappropriate times.
that day in the office, he was doing just that, and people (adults mind you) were watching him and laughing out loud. I was a young Mother of 21, who thought everyone was good deep inside, so I was appalled at this behavior, and picked up my son and held him. With no way to defend him, I walked to the corner and held him close and spoke softly to him as I cried. The saddest thing to me was that he didn't even realize these people were laughing at him or why, and I wondered if they ever stopped to think how it made me feel.
I learned a lot about compassion that day and about treating others how you would expect to be treated.
I smile at everyone I see, and to me, everyone on this Earth is equal.
Show me that there are people that believe the way I do.
Option 1
Tell me your own story (in poetic form)of how you show compassion to others
or
Option 2
be inspired by the quotes below:
That best portion of a good man's life,
His little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love.
William Wordsworth (1770 - 1850)
Sometimes when we are generous in small, barely detectable ways it can change someone else's life forever.
Margaret Cho,
I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; let me not defer or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again.
Ettiene De Grellet
Guard well within yourself that treasure, kindness. Know how to give without hesitation, how to lose without regret, how to acquire without meanness.
George Sand (1804 - 1876)
no erotica, profanity, cutting abuse or degrading of anyone....
With Love,
Lynda♥

beautiful contest

You scatter seeds of kindness & harvest loveliness wherever you go, Lady. Don't listen to the jaded & cynical among us, my Friend. They only hear the bad news. I've always subscribed to the ideas of "pay it forward" & "practice random acts of kindness & commit senseless acts of beauty"; I know you do, too. Thank you for hosting a great contest idea; I'll see what I can come up with for you, Sweetie. Good luck to all who enter. I've always thought that while it may be impossible for one person to change the world, we CAN change the corner we inhabit...& if everyone did that, the whole world would then change...Keep bein' you, Dear Heart...It IS contagious, ya know...Be well, Poets & Scribes...
