Rounds Contest - Round 1 - An introduction ...

***sorry to all that are waiting for the contest to be judged.. still waiting to get 50 entries. we're almost there now***

****closing date extended. need more entries****

ok, so this is one of those rounds contests.

i haven't got a set plan for what the rounds are going to look like, but for now, i can say it's going to be about exploring different types and forms of poetry. i'll definitely include a sestina form somewhere. i am going to work on a scoring system as well, so that the person with the most points over 5 rounds takes a prize pot of about 2000 points. i'll see how many points i have by the last round.

scoring will be as follows:

1 - 20 points
2 - 16 points
3 - 13 points
4 - 11 points
5 - 9 points
6 - 5 points
7 - 3 points
8 - 1 points

i will allow prewrites in later rounds, if i deem it necessary, but for this first round i want something fresh.

here is what i want...

i want you to write an introduction to your own poetry. it can be in any form but it must be more than 20 lines.

for an example of what i want, have a look at my profile (http://allpoetry.com/neville) and you'll see two poems which i wrote as an introduction to my stuff.

just think of something that you would put on the first page of your own published book of poetry which will tell the people what they are getting themselves into.

for the first round, i'm allowing 50 entries. only one entry per person please.

there is one more thing, which i am not too fond of. i don't like suicidal cutting stuff at all, so please try and steer clear of that.

have fun...

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 21, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
    Well done all.

This was a nightmare to judge - although i am very happy with the medals i gave away. I had a big struggle juging up to eighth place, but i think the way i've judged is pretty fair. I will give a breakdown of the points in the next round.

i have decided to narrow the field down to 20 poets. Everybody that is on the finalist list, has made it through.

To the rest of you, your writes were all good, and i have a reason for dropping each one of you, even though it was really hard to do.

Thanks to all for the interest in this round.

I will post the link to the second round shortly.

Hi all. I sent you all the wrong link to the second round. Please use this link. For those of you that found it, i'm glad, but for those who have still not found it, here it is. http://allpoetry.com/contest/2355196

    Thank You neville ...

I so appreciate that you did not judge my poem by the number of comments left by others and indeed went about judging it fairly! I'm so glad that you found my words worthy to recieve a trophy and points. I applaud you!
