Battle Of The Muse. Fighting With Ink: {ROUND ONE}

Welcome to the Battle Of The Muse. Fighting With Ink: Rounds Contest!
This will be a series of contests in which the public of AP will compete for the title of Top Poet.

This contest will be judged by DwellingInDarkness, twilight seduction, DancingRed, and myself - PerfectImperfection;
with the help of invited judges in next round(s).

++++OPTIONS++++

1. Tell a story in three stanzas. Any kind of story, any poetic form -
but it has to contain a beginning, middle, and end. (Nothing too lengthy please.)

2. Dark poetry. Stray from the cliché - we have judges that adore
the gore, and others who despise it - write with care!

3. Poet's Challenge: 55 syllables or ELSE! (Poems no less or more than 55 syllables)

4. Quote Inspiration: [Author's Unknown]
___a. "Bloom where you're planted."
___b. "A book tightly shut is but a block of paper."
___c. "Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting with the gift of speech."
___d. "Poetry is to prose as dancing is to walking."
___e. "If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much space."
___f. "Trees are poems that the earth writes upon the sky."
___g. "The person who said a picture is worth a thousand words obviously couldn't read."
___h. "When life gives you lemons, eat ‘em; it’s probably high time you pulled a few funny faces and had a good laugh."
___i. "When I read about the evil's of drinking, I stopped reading."

5. Phrase bank: Choose at least 6 and use them in your poem.

complicated simplicity
shattered whole
the weight of sour deceit
frosted intentions
petals of innocence
cotton candy comforts
precious pieces
rusted remnants of today
soaking up the animosity
winged serenity
live to live
seasons of Sundays
monochromatic stains
twisted into form
the end of nothing
a slice of moon between your teeth
green tea echoes in cold tea-cups
electric laughter
tunneled beneath the mainstream
veins and hollow crab holes
strangled indigo
the drumming of rain on a roof
wet side of clouds
dancing whims and limbs
tracing circles over her soul
oversized insomnia
kelp clogging the throat
a monologue of sand
swallowed in empty vows
black & white surgical lights

RULES

- Put your option choice(s) in the NOTES section of your poem!!!

- Use SPELL CHECK!!!

- NO chat speak!!!

- NO Erotica!!!

EDIT BY TWILIGHT SEDUCTION: PAY ATTENTION
I will tell all the contestants how I judge. I rank in four areas: Poetic devices, Use of English devices (like grammar, punctuation, spelling), originality, and lastly, organization.

Each area is worth 10 points. With me, the Use of English you can either get all or nothing on; I am a picky judge and hard to please. So either do it right to get 10 points, or do it wrong and be penalized. I WILL NOT DO POINT REVISIONS IF YOU REVISE YOUR POEM. If you did it wrong the first time, I penalize.

The other three areas are MUCH less strict, as poetry needs to have variety. Poetic devices could be anything from imagery to poetry type like cinquain. Easy points there people. Originality depends somewhat on you and my views on cliches....I hate them. If you do one, do it well. (HINT: I hate cutting poems) Organization is a number of things like stanza placement and plot device, especially if you chose the story option. STORY OPTION PEOPLE, PLEASE TRY TO GET GOOD ORGANIZATION SO I CAN UNDERSTAND YOU. A short story is confusing.

NO harassment of other contestants or judges will be accepted!

++++++++++++++ATTENTION++++++++++++
Round 2 will be posted soon! Please bare with us, and do not remove your poems until we have officially closed the contest!
Thank you!
Wendy
