Shhhhhh: A Creation Story

by Carol Desjarlais

Carol is one of my dearest friends, online or off. She is also one of the most spiritual, brilliant writers I've ever encountered in the 34 years I've been reading & writing poetry. If you're not familiar with her work, gift yourself. It's not a requirement, but if you intend to write a tribute to someone, then it's a good idea to be aware of who they are. She is such a magnificent Soul. She has been holding a lot of contests recently honoring other Poets. I was a recent recipient of her generosity, as well. It's time to pay homage to the one who loves us all with her every breath. She's a beautiful human being & I expect you to honor her as such.

No prewrites. She deserves new poems. Make her feel cherished, 'cause she IS.

No typos. Proofread your work or ask someone you trust to do so. I will allow editing &/or revising up until the contest closes & I will re~read each entry before judging. I won't disqualify you for errors, but I will show preference to quality writing. I do know the difference between stylistic writing & laziness.

USE ANY & ALL POETIC DEVICES AT YOUR COMMAND. Metaphor, simile, alliteration, etc.

Need I clarify??? NO CHATSPEAK, STICKY CAPS OR BASHING OF ANYONE!!!

Violence, Gore or Erotica is hardly a good idea, either. LOL

This is NOT an anonymous contest. I WILL know whose work I'm reading.

I detest so~called "blind judging". It defeats the purpose of this site, which is supposed to be interaction between writers. It also implies that the judge is inherently biased or dishonest. I am a fair judge.
I love poetry too much & take it far too seriously not to be fair & honest about it. No matter who writes a poem or how much I adore them, it will ALWAYS be the best poem that wins. Ask anyone who's entered my contests. Most of them are my friends. The only way you'll win a trophy from me is to earn it.

I reserve the right to disqualify any poem which is not appropriate for this contest.
NO WHINING.

Please do not enter immediately. Take your time & make it a worthy piece. I'll wait for you.
I know who the prolific writers are on this site.

You may enter twice if you want to. I want as many good entries as I can get.
I may extend the contest to allow time for that. It will be judged promptly on a weekend.
I will leave comments on every entry.

If you have any questions, please leave them as a comment on this contest page;
others may also have the same question.

Check for updates periodically. I will post them at the top of the page if there are any.

Gold:   300 points
Silver: 200 points
Bronze: 100 points
Honorable Mentions: 30 points each; I will add as many HM's as I feel deserve it.

Go; write your heartsongs upon these pages.
She does, every single day.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on June 9, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 22 people
  • Final notes:

The honorable mentions are listed in no particular order. I want to thank each & every one of you for honoring Carol in such a grand way. I truly enjoyed hosting this contest, reading your thoughts about the dear Soul she is & reading her heartfelt reactions to each piece. If there are any she hasn't yet commented on, please give her time; she's been writing a great deal lately & has much going on in her offline life, too. Please, EVERYONE, leave your piece in the contest...or at least, leave a link to it. I know Carol will want to revisit all of these wonderful pennings. Thank you for making her smile, weep, sigh & sing with your beautiful words. I'd only intended to award a few HM's; however, the sheer quality & sincerity of these poems made me decide that ALL of you deserved something for your generous, loving spirits. She deserves everything you had to say to her & more. Thank you for your contributions, both to this contest & to the arts in general. This world needs all the creative souls it can hold. Be kind to each other.

    Be well, Poets & Scribes.

Thanks for the invitation to the contest, i will work on something (i hope)
    I am a moderator at findquotations.com, a sister site to AllPoetry.com ( http://findquotations.com/user/show/astralshepherd )

And I saw that you had a quote listed as unknown. Well it could be a paraphrase one of my favorite quotes and authorship could be attributed to Patrick Overton as follows -

"When you walk to the edge of all the light you have
and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown,
you must believe that one of two things will happen:
There will be something solid for you to stand upon,
or, you will be taught how to fly."
    ~© Patrick Overton

Rebuilding the Front Porch of America, 1997

i am unsure as to the origin of your "unknown" quote
"When we come to the edge of the light we know,
and are about to step off into the darkness of the unknown, of this we can be sure.
Either God will provide something solid to stand on or we will be taught to fly." some sites list it as Richard Bach, American Writer, Author of 'Jonathan Livingston Seagull' but i am in the process of finding a copy of it to read it for myself.
But I am sure of the Patrick Overton source, one which can be verified.

    blessings and best wishes,

    ~richard

I'm quite sure you've provided the correct information, Richard; probably it was one of those someone remembered in paraphrase, but not the source. Thank you for helping to give credit where it is due, my Friend. I hope you will have time to enter something, Poet. Wanda

I am truly touched and am smiling all over my face to see this contest in tribute to carol ... she has been a discrete yet closer than closest guide at one moment in my current life ... and certainly before ... offering me a totem-animal-reading in a totally selfless and loving way ... I am still benefitting from the healing energies that were sent my way ...
therefore, my love goes out to carol, and embraces wanda, too, who seems to me like her twin-soul-sister ...
a poem is on its way ...

Chatspeak is using abbreviated words such as "UR" instead of "you're", "B4" instead of "before", "U" instead of "you", "LOL" instead of "laughing out loud", etc. ~ you know, words designed for speed & laziness. I also prefer that "I" be capitalized. None of the rest of us are e.e. cummings, sooo... Thanks for asking, Dill. I look forward to receiving your entry. Be well, Poet. Wanda
