Calling All Sonneteers

Please read this description:

I would love to read some really good Sonnets! Any topic, any form of Sonnet (except where meter is excluded).

This will be an anonymous contest and I will make sure to keep it that way by not reading comments. However, PLEASE REQUEST ALL COMMENTS TO NOT INCLUDE YOUR NAME. Even though I will not read comments--if you reply to comments or if your name is included in them then it may be something that jumps out at me. I will do my best to not scroll down to the comment area though. I love this new aspect of the site and will be judging entries blind to the author's identity. Your poem is all I want to see.

PLEASE READ:
Please use good meter. This can be any of the various meters or a mixture of meters, but please use good, well crafted meter. If you have found a form of Sonnet that does not require meter then do not use it. Meter will be a strong consideration when judging.

No profanity
No self harm
One entry per person
No prewrites

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on May 19, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 350, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 2 people
  • Final notes:
I am behind on commenting and I apologize for that. I will be commenting on each entry over the next few days, but I wanted to get the contest judged. I'm sorry this is taking a while.

All the entries were wonderful and my choices were difficult. Entries were judged on message first, structure and meter second. There was one entry that left a clue as to who the author was and I did not place that entry though it would have received an hm. (Sorry Terry, 'peace' was too strong of a clue and I feel sure that is you. ) I wanted specfically to not know the authors and I did not on any others.

Thanks for some fine sonnet reading.
  • To judge this contest, you need to have at least as many finalists as you have rewards. You have 4 awards but only 3 finalists.

Doh! No pre-writes. How sad. Considering, I can put out a decent sonnet maybe once a year. lol. Otherwise, I'm asking for trouble. Good luck with your contest. I'll be sure to stop by and read the entries, as I love the sonnet.

Bravo! Finally someone recognizes that a sonnet isn't just iambic pentameter shakespetrarchspearean.

I wrote and had to retract a sonnet recently, but I'll try to write something new.

Dear Mary, thank you for the silver trophy and the gift of points. I wrote two others that I removed, which might have been good enough, but I'm happy I went for the third.
Congratulations to PerVirtuous Allan and masterblaster for trophy level work, and also Kaibab for HM.
