The Mediocre Against Mediocrity

Hey you....

Yeah you...

Sitting there at your computer and wondering what kind of contest this is...

Well I'm laughingstock and I welcome you. This is my 5th contest and in order to celebrate I'm going to give you a contest that everyone can take part in.

I want to see you push yourselves to write a new piece. Mediocrity is a sickness and it tells us that we are good but we aren't great. It tells us that we are attractive but we won't stop traffic. It tells us that we are smart but we aren't going to Harvard.

Well, honestly I'm tired of being mediocre. And I'm tired of people accepting the fact that they are just one more mediocre person that isn't good enough. Or is just good enough.

So here it is.
The rule.

Write a poem about literally anything.
Love... Cats... Quantum Mechanics... Poker... Monkeys... Monkeys Playing Poker... Dogs Playing Poker... Ancient Eastern Architecture... Sex... Erotica... BDSM... Jesus... Religion... Dogs Having Sex While Playing Poker... Eating... Not Eating... Honesty... Deciet... Dieting... Death... Dying From Not Eating... Kindergarten... College Graduation... Dropping Out Of High School... Skydiving... Bottled Water... Breakdancing... Underwater Basket-weaving... Grandmas... Grandmas Breakdancing... Guns... Hugs... Murder... Insanity... Cartoons... Music... Baseball... Freedom... Martha Stewart... Recess... Drum Solos... Chain Wallets... Chain Whips... Chain Letters... Letters To Santa... Santa's Breakdancing... Dogs... Gerbils... Debt... Marriage... (you get the picture)

Honestly I don't care what you write about. Just the fact that you write it well. I mean I want flawless poetry. SPELLCHECK!!!! DICTIONARIES!!! THESAURUSES!!!
COLLEGE TEXTBOOKS (if need be)!!!

Any form... any length... use all the language you want to... just make it good.

And if it's good enough for you... it's good enough for me.

I will judge based on the knowledge that you will have read them and edited them accordingly. To make sure of this fact I will accept the poems as they are when the contest closes and WILL NOT READ THEM BEFOREHAND.

I will comment on all the poems after the contest is over, but before I judge the enteries.

Every poet deserves to know that they have talent. And none of you are mediocre. Come and prove that to me.

I think it's uncool to make fun of the silent majority. We're deficient! But sufficient! Get used to it! We did!

If you become complacent with being less than your best, and everyone around you becomes complacent with beig less than your best, then the whole country is not nearly as good as it could -- and should -- be. The fact that you're happy with barely getting by doesn't mean that everyone else should.

And besides, when is it really all that good to have a group mentality? Be an individual.

Yeah. It can be hard to recognize satire in text. Maybe it was all of the exclamation marks. So...I understand your comment. But no...see...I'm sort of stepping outside of mediocrity by saying what a mediocre person probably never would. Unless I'm wrong. Maybe that's exactly what a mediocre person would say.
