For my third contest, I'm going to try something fun that will hopefully inspire a lot of creative and fun entries. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to inspire me with nature or earth poetry.
Some options, not requirements or rules. These are just to get you thinking:
1. Give me something about the seasons, whether it's the changing of the seasons, or just aspects of a particular season that you enjoy.
2. Give me something about weather, beauty of a rainstorm, your hate of snow, anything having to do with weather.
3. Inspire me with your vision of the night sky. Tell me about the stars, the planets, maybe a meteor shower.
4. Tell me about your love for a certain kind of plant. Maybe it's flowers, grass, pine trees, whatever.
Just convince me that you love this plant, or maybe convince me that you hate it.
5. Show me the life of a plant, or tell me about growth from a seed.
6. Paint me a mental picture of a landscape, maybe a forest or moor.
7. Give me a poem about magic or rituals, the elements of fire, air, earth, and water.
8. Just do whatever you can think of related to nature or the earth.
9. Write something about the picture above, or about any kind of faerie/elemental.
Okay, here's the rules:
1. Read the rules. Pretty simplistic. Follow this rule.
2. No sticky caps. I don't like them, I don't understand them, don't use them.
3. Please don't submit more than three poems per person. I don't want to be swamped with each individual thought you have about nature. Keep it down to your best three. To make sure one person doesn't submit ten poems, I am using my gold member benefits to make this a non-anonymous contest. I will not judge you based on anything but your poem; this is just a measure to make sure my rules are followed as they are set.
4. I am allowing prewritten poems, but please keep it to your best three. Again, this option is only open because I want your best nature poetry to inspire me, no matter when you wrote it. Please don't abuse this privilege.
5. Keep it (reasonably) clean. I don't mind swearing as long as it has a place, although for this contest I'm looking more for uplifting poems. However, if you want to write a dark poem about nature, go right ahead, I just don't want the f-word to be every other word. And on the sex note, please keep it down to a nice minimum. Some appropriate sexual imagery can uplift a piece, but please don't make me want to roll my eyes or vomit.
6. Rhyming or free-verse, short or long. I don't really care much on this note. Whatever you're inspired to write, go ahead and write it. I would love lots of detail and imagery though. Make me see or feel what you're describing.
7. Further requirements. I'm not going to make you put anything really specific in your author's notes, although a description of what you were writing about would be nice if you think it is needed. And I'm kind of a stickler for grammar and spelling, so try your best to get those correct please. It's not like I'll d'q you for misspellings, but I prefer to read a poem without being interrupted my mistakes like that.
8. Have fun. Okay, this isn't really a requirement, but it would be nice if you enjoyed writing your inspiring poetry.
All right, that's about it. One last note, PLEASE READ THE RULES, I know they're a little long, but I would prefer if I didn't have to remove anyone from the contest because they don't fit the rules I took the time to type up and set. I'm giving you points, so please read my rules. They aren't very restrictive at all, so please give me up to your three best entries! I'm hoping to get a lot for this contest!
ENJOY! And give me LOTS of entries everyone! Give me your maximum three!
Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on April 22, 2007
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 200, Bronze: 100, Honorable mention: 15 people
- Final notes: Wow, did I get a lot of inspiring poetry during this contest, my expectations were exceeded so greatly! As I have already said in most comments to entrants, thank you all for inspiring me! The finalists were merely the ones who stuck out to me with original ideas or inspiring images and thoughts. This contest was extremely hard to judge because every entry conveyed something beautiful. I kept having to add more honorable mentions because of the beauty and inspiration you gave me, and although the honorable mentions are in no particular order, every finalist poem is there because the poem spoke very deeply to a part of me, made me think, and in short, inspired me! Thank you all so much for entering such poetic pieces of your souls!

i'm going to put in a poem on Djjins, belief in them createed the idea of Elementals that was believed until cells were discovered.
I don't know if this is out of the guidelines but if its in a group that you asked for it would be weather. You'll see what I mean.
Because there's a second meaning to the poem I described. -
I've got a really good poem for this contest! But, it's at school. I'll have to get it some time soon.
