I HAVE EXTENDED THIS CONTEST IN HOPES TO RECEIVE MORE ENTRIES.
The title pretty much says it all. There is a child abused every 15 seconds. What I am looking for here is writes suited for children under the age of 16 that give them ways to say no, where to turn, what to do if someone abused them.
This is about Child Abuse!!!
If you are a survivor of child abuse or domestic violence I have started an online support group here at allpoetry. If you are interested in joining the link is:
http://allpoetry.com/group/show/There%20IS%20Life%20After%20The%20Abuse
Rules:
1) Remember these are children looking for a way to keep from being abused or to escape the abuse. Keep it clean and absolutely no foul language.
2) Set a good example with your form, use punctuation, capitalization and such.
3) Write it age appropriate or I will not consider it as a winner. If you are writing for children 0-5, put it in your author comments, 5-10, 10-16 or all ages inclusive, put that in your author comments.
4) This is perhaps the most serious contest I have hosted and I will be judging it as it is.
5) It would be nice, but not mandatory, if you commented on other writes in this contest.
6) Be nice to other entrants.
7) IMPORTANT!!! Find a link for child abuse awareness and add it to your author comments.
I would like to thank livefortoday2007 for the points for this contest.
Thank you for your entries. I will read and comment on every entry. Viyanna Rosemarie
I am adding points as I earn them.

I'm confused about the 'hurt' thing...is that drugs, abuse, bullying...?
-
I think this was a fabulous idea. Especially the support. Also remember that abuse isn't always at home. It can be teachers, or even complete strangers.

that is why the contest is not specifically allocated for parents abusing children. my son and i use to play a game we called what if. what if mommy hurt you who would you tell? what if your teacher hurt you who would you tell? etc... {i would never hurt him but i wanted him to see that even those closest to him needed to have a person he would tell without just scaring him from teachers and such}. i am hoping that you enter. viyanan

It was more a note to your entrants than to you. And that sounds like a game many parents should play with their children, just so they know what to do should something like that happen.
-
That is very responsible of you. To play that game with your son. And even to include yourself, so he knew if you hurt him, that it was not okay and that he had someone he could tell. That is so amazing. Good Job

A worthy and worthwhile contest idea, all children need advice and assistance to stay safe or to reach for a helping hand to heal them if sadly they are already in an unsafe situation. The saddest part of your age differentials for writes for guiding the child is that the o-5 aged child cannot read the advice, however good it may be and many in the 5-10 bracket would only be able to read and understand the advice if it were written in very simple terms.I am not mentioning in criticism but as an observation.I hope that the continuum of everyone being aware and caring enough to reach out touches and enables those that are unable to defend themselves.Good luck with this.

i realize that but babysitters read and so do older siblings. it is a contest geared for all ages but one would speak differently to a five year old than a 16 year old. henceforth, the allowance for the different age groups.

I wish everyone good luck in this contest .And thank you viyanna for holding it . Believe me i know about this in more than one way , I was a victim of this and so was my son , the person who did it to my son had him brain washed . It took years of counsling for him to open up . So now I guess you can say I am an overprotect person . I will not enter this contest .since i gave the points to Viyanna to hold it . But I will read and comment .

This is a very cool contest. I think you are doing something that is worth the attention. You know, children deserve better than to be in a situation they cant get out of.
I just saw a story of a 6 year old girl who was molested by her paternal grandfather. The little girl told her grandma when she was giving her a bath and the grandma said "it was probably an accident". A while later, the little girl told the mom who took action. Sadly the grandfather only got 2 months in jail and he said that the "devil" made him do it and if he had not been caught he would have done it again. The worst part other than the affects this will have on this little girl. The mom cant stand to look at the dad because he looks too much like the grandfather.
Kutos to you for holding this contest!!
