Photo Contest

Joy and Sorrow by Zhong-Yang Huang

Today I spent the afternoon with my eldest daughter as she miscarried her second child. It was heartrending to see her in such pain.

I would just like some cheering up. Use the painting. Do not describe it. Just let it inspire you. Humour is fine, if it is done right.

Rules:
Language- Keep it clean and correct. I count points for proper spelling and punctuation. Some of you know this.

Sticky caps- Do I really need to mention this?

Place your AP user name at the end of your poem. Please be sure to list it correctly. If I cannot look you up, I will not consider your entry. Also, do not put it in the author's notes.

Erotica is fine, if you can fit it in. Porn is not. If you do not know the difference, do not attempt it.

Shorter works get more consideration; however, if you can keep my attention with a longer piece, go for it.

This contest is NOT anonymous. I just do not have a gold membership.

I will close this contest when I feel the need.

I plan to tell you what I think. If you do not want to hear what I think, then say so in your author's notes. I am polite, but if I have issues with your entry, I will voice them. If I have already done so, then I will edit any entries that do not want criticism. You must follow the rules to get a critique.

There will be applause for those who follow the rules.

Enjoy yourself.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on April 14, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 3 people
  • Final notes:
Thank you, everyone who entered here. Each entry was received with gratitude.

The six finalists were what I thought best inspired by the photo. There were a couple who just described the photo itself, which is not what was intended. One, who would have place in the top three, did not sign their work. I enjoyed this very much and look forward to another in the future.

I know someone who went through the same thing, but now they have four very healthy children. Just thought I would try to give you and your daughter some hope for the future.

Thank you. It is not her first experience, but there was much hope with this one. And, she went through it three times with me, so at least I pray that I taught her hope. It is the only solace I can give her. Thank you for your thoughts.
