I haven't been all that active on AP lately & I'm also kind of in a poetry rut. So this contest is for you to help me get out of my rut.
Here are three basic things you ought to know about me and about the contest before I get onto what you're actually supposed to do.
[1] I'm sooo over the dirty.pretty;; bulimic_angel &&glamslut thing. So please....don't pull the whole glam dirty pretty thing unless you can do it ARTfully. Unless you think you are saying something unique, something I haven't heard before or something that hasn't been over done...at least, make it unique.
[2] I also really hate it when things are spelled out. I love simplistic poetry, but not boring emotionless poetry. I don't like poetry that anyone could have written, basically.
[3] I also really dislike it when poets take themselves too seriously. And also when they make their poems too "deep" or too metaphorical. That's just an annoying pseudo-intellectual thing to do, and no one likes pseudo-intellectuals.
So...as for things you could possibly do.
[a] Write a letter to someone in your past. Someone you loved or someone who died or someone you just met on the bus. Please see Things About ME #2 if you want to do this option, though. I don't want anything lame.
[b] I fuckin loooooooove people watching. Write a poem or a prose or anything about a person you randomly saw one time or about someone you see on a daily basis that you've never talked to that you want to talk to soo badly. If you do this option, I absolutely do not want it to be to someone you like/love/are lusting after. Cuz that's lame.
[c] COMBINE A AND B!! That'd be really cool.
and finally....
[d] I love summer. You could write about a memory of summer. This option is really highly encouraged. Just don't make it lame. See #3.
oh wait. there's another one.
[e] Write about something you're currently struggling with or have in the past. Me, I'm an alcoholic and an addict in recovery...I went to treatment and now I practice a 12-step program and I'm clean and sober and all that good stuff. Soooooo...write about that. An addiction, I mean. Eating disorders, drug addiction, unhealthy relationships...all that. Uhh, yeah. Just see Things About Me # 1, 2, & 3. kthx.
That's all. Thx. Any questions just IM me or leave a comment or somethin' jazzy and I'll get back to you asap.
Peace.
