This contest has re-opened for NoWayJo only. Her original entry mysteriously disappeared, and she will re-post it. Please NO other entries into the contest. With her entry it will have met the limit of 50 entries [set at the beginning of contest]. Best wishes to all,

reenie

                                            ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Welcome to my 50th contest, enjoy a glass of wine and invite your Muse.
A few days ago I ran across a poetry form on the net [Hay(na)ku. I was intrigued and hosted a contest, which was quite succesful and I decided to have another one, this time allowing more entries. I had planned on a contest anyway, as this will give me the round number of 50 contests hosted on the site. I am not making it an anonymous one, simply because I have not had one single complaint regarding any of my contests and my fair judging, so I will rely on me being fair in this one as well.
About the form:
 In a traditional Hay[na]ku there are:
A tercet [3 lines]
A total of 6 words [1 in the first line, 2 in the second line, and 3 in the third line]
there is no restriction on syllable count.
example by Craig Freeman:
moonshine
and great
quantities of hills.
I will admit to not being too fond of this one, but it is only an example.
variation on the traditional:
The longest line can be placed first and the shortes last [3 words in 1st line,2 in the 2nd, and 1 in the 3rd]
multiple haynaku can be chained to form a longer poem, so I will allow a chain of no more than 2. If you decide to do this, please make sure that both chains relate to each other, instead of giving me two different ones. That is for judging reasons, as I might like one and consider it for the win , but the other one might not be as good, therefore making the judging harder. Judging will be based on the entirety of the entry.
here is a link to the site where I found this form:
www.baymoon.com/~ariadne/form/haynaku.htm
rules:
no chat speak
no sloppy typing with caps
respect other entries and read out of curtesy [not a requirement and will have no influence on judging] but it is a nice thing to do , and you will enjoy as well.
no cursing
no religion bashing [spiritual entries are welcome and accepted , but please do not overdo it on the "religious theme" as there are many different beliefs and cultures on this site.
no blatant porn [sensual erotica is okay]
below is the winning entry to my last haynaku contest. It was submitted by masterblaster.
                                                   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Shrouds (haynaku)

Shrouds
of night
mourn the day.
by masterblaster

                                     ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
that is about it for now. I hope you will enjoy trying your hand at this as much as I enjoyed reading ALL the entries in my last one. I will comment on each entry before closing the contest and I will judge as fairly and timely as I possibly can. Each entry will get an applause as a thank you. I am giving away a fair amount of points, so please give me your best........after all, it is a very short form.
Thank you,
reenie
Contest is Over
  • Contest was judged on March 24, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 600, Silver: 300, Bronze: 150, Honorable mention: 2 people
  • Final notes:
    I would like to thank everyone of you for your entries. I know it is cliche to say that each entry could have been a winning one, but I really do mean it {I enjoyed every single one for different reasons]
    So for the points I kind of tried to pick different categories[very creative, nature related,thoughts,humour and spiritual]
    Those not awarded a win are in no particular order regarding how much I liked them.Everyone really is a winner in my eyes and I hope that my applause awarded to everyone is a small token of thanks
    I have some extra points, I enjoy these hay[na]kus tremendously, and might have another such contest in the near future. I hope to see all of you again.
    thank you,
    reenie
    Hi Reenie! I don't know if second entries are allowed--(There seems no limit in the contest restrictions). If you only want one-entry per-person, just lemme know and I'll remove the second post, OK?'
      Jo, at this time I would prefer only one entry per person. I have not read your second one yet, so it is up to you which one you would want to remove, as I do not know as of yet , which one of the two would be my favorite. It is my mistake though...I thought that it said only one entry. But I had been asked by swanridur as well and told her only one.....so I want to be fair. If I get the 50 entries before the automatic closing day I will try and judge it as fast as possible. I am enjoying every entry and this has been one of the most fun contests thanks to all that entered
        Hi Reenie...I removed the second post to the contest which you haven't read as to keep it fair on all accounts.
        Thanks for discovering this poetry-form...It really is a lot of fun!
