Lords and Ladies

*Edit--We are now allowing prewrites to boost the number of entries.*

My lovely wife and I have decided to offer a contest together.

Gentlemen, please find a lady and put your heads together. Between the two of you, craft a poem about your lives together in medieval Europe. It can be as realistic as you like--it can be as fantastic as you like.

The general rules apply. Spelling and grammar are essential. No sticky caps or chat lingo.

It doesn't HAVE to rhyme, but I do prefer rhyming poems--if they are well constructed. Your partner must be another AP member and you'll need to list their name as a collaborator.

Just to show me that you've taken the time to read these rules, please put the name ~Geoffroi de Charny~ in your Author's notes. Thank you.

Come one, come all...lords and ladies. Tell us of your lives, your love, your hopes and dreams. Take us to another world.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on March 24, 2007

Everyone entered some great work...if you didn't win this time, feel free to enter the next contest one of us hosts. Thanks for participating.

    ...Will

Ive bookmarked this as well. I THINK I know of someone who may want to collaborate with me on this. It sounds interesting. Are we using thus and thou and the grammer that was used in the time period?

I don't think that's all that neccessary. If you can pull it off well, then by all means, do! But if you prefer not to, then you probably shouldn't, or it will sound forced. We really want these poems to flow.

Hey! Great Idea for a contest. If there are any guys looking for someone to collaborate with, i'm your gal. I even have some great ideas all ready, for those lacking inspiration. (Note: I would perfer a partner who likes poetry in some form or another rather than just free verse)

Well, perhaps if you don't have enough entries, and you need to end the contest, you will let me try alone?

If you are unable to find someone in a day or two, and my lady has no objections, then we'll see what else we can manage.

          How's that?

No objections here... possibly two ladies could team up on this as well? If the choose...
We shall have to see, I suppose.

Okay, I got a friend of mine to JOIN and collaborate with me... Geez, you think there'd be at least ONE guy on here who would be willing to collaborate... but no, you have to call in favors.

Prewrites are allowed now, and we will also consider solo entries, if they fit the theme well enough.

I really did want collaborations, but we aren't getting enough entries. Unless we get at least a few more, I will have to close the contest.

Interesting... this ends in one day, or I would consider entering. Are you going to extend this? If so, let me know.

I have one for you, a prewrite, but it wasn't a collaborative effort. It's an epic for my medieval British literature class, written in the classic medieval Anglo-Saxon style, about real people (Rollo Ragnvaldsson and Poppa de Bayeux) who happen to be my ancestors.

If you'd be interested, I would love to enter... let me know.

    hey

Is there anyway to delete an entry? I forgot to thoroughly read the rules and I'm missing two parts. I just saw this and thought it was too good to be true.

If you find a partner, let me know and I'll extend the deadline a day or two.

Unless you want to enter a solo piece, since we're allowing those now.
