Kiss me and make me your prince

The cane toad was introduced to rid the cane fields of pests. Now that the food is gone, the toads are moving North and West, across the desert, advancing like a plague. Their skin is toxic and they are destroying the life support of indigenous wildlife.

Firstly, study this picture then give this toad a name. This name will be your title.
Write me a poem in good English please of up to 50 lines in whatever form you please.
I am expecting great things for I know you are capable of this.

As with all good competitions, I cannot judge what I cannot see and I cannot understand those strange invented words (save them for your texting). If sticky caps are a product of your PC then buy a new keyboard, for sticky caps are like head lice.

I have allowed my points to accumulate so that I can reward good poetry with worthy attributes.

Gold – 1000 points
Silver – 500 points
Bronze – 300 points
And the green ones will earn you 100

It will not be I who judge you, but the poets of the Peter Cowan Writers Centre, here in Joondalup, for they are good poets all and of discerning taste and they are many.

This contest will end on February 14th (Valentine’s day) that is a good day for princes.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on February 17, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 1000, Silver: 500, Bronze: 300, Honorable mention: 150 people
  • Final notes:
The contest harvested a diversity of writing, making the job of judging that much harder. The entries were printed out and taken to the Peter Cowan Writers Centre, where a group of eight poets read them and awarded a placing to each.
One poem has disappeared from the original group of print-outs (withdrawn?), and that’s rather sad.Having read them all, and not yet knowing who wrote them, I can only say thanks to everyone who entered, congratulations to the winners, and in the next life I am going to be a toad.
