We all have our favourite poet. There are a few thousand of mine here www.oldpoetry.com
What I would like to see is a poem describing your own favourite poet and telling me what it is about them you like.
It doesn't have to be written in their style, though that would be nice. It does have to tell me something about them and also endeavour to persuade me to read their work.
RULES
1. Your chosen poet must be on the oldpoetry list but as there is over 50,000 already that should not be too difficult.
2. Your poem should have no "adult" language or text talk either.
3. If you want to add a picture of your favourite writer (or anything else) that's fine but doesn't gain you any points.
4. Please use a spell checker or a dictionary. I will!
5. There will be only 1 judge and my decision is final.
6. If you alter the poem after you enter it that is OK by me but please let me know as I may have to re-judge it.
7. No pre-writes and no limit on entries. If you have more than one favourite write more than 1 poem.
If your favourite is not on Oldpoetry yet why not IM a message with her/his details. If they qualify they'll be added.
That's about it have fun!

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on February 18, 2007
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 150, Bronze: 75
- Final notes: Though there were few entries submitted, those that arrived were well written and showed the writers feelings for 5 of the great poets from 5 different eras and styles.
I was pleased to be able to identify the 5 subjects from the tributes so clearly did they depict the writers. (I was also pleased that they were not too high on my own favourites list so I could avoid bias )
Each of the entrants gave a feeling of their respect for the poets and it was hard to choose but in the end I selected those who I felt mirrored the style of the subject and who also gave pointers to where the original work could be read.
Additional thanks to those who added references to www.Oldpoetry.com on preference to other sites. That was the aim of the contest after all.

This is a great concept for a contest - it may even inspire me to write something - see it's working already.

Awesome
This is a real awesome idea, as 'am sure it would leave most of us impressed. Sure, we all have one favourite old poet. and mine is always there
I'd need no persuasion to write about him... I'll try to be faster..

Great Contest!
I would, but I've done about twenty already.
But, for those who haven't, do this, and be improved by the exercise. -
Working on something.. almost over..

Love it!
I obviously love this contest. (hence the two entries) I love any forum to proclaim an intimate love for men I never knew who are no longer alive. It's not often I find an opportunity where it is not only accepted but encouraged! Thanks. -
Thank You
I didn't expect this and for the trophy I thank You - I have other ideas for the points and they are very welcome too.
