Sympathy for the Death of an Open Mind

Aloha AP poets, it' time once again for a contest from your Laughingstock.

Now this contest is pretty interesting because I'm making it up with no preconcieved notions. I was reading a poem called "oer & consider" by panegyric ink and I was struck with inspiration to name a contest about the idea of having sympathy for the loss of an open mind.

BUT!!! My contests are never as cut and dry as that.

So heres what I want you to do for me.

*boom* write me a poem about the disintegration of an open mind, either through experiences. What does it take for a mind to close. Get detailed and make my mind want to close as well. Make me experience it too.

or

*crack* write me a poem about the process of a mind closing. What are the thoughts leading up to it, what are the thoughts during, and what are the thoughts after? Make me have sympathy for the mind that is going to close.

or

*zap* write me a poem from the stance of a close minded person.

or

*kablauie* write me a poem in grief of a mind that has closed and once was opened. Make me sympathetic. I want to know that when you wrote this you could've been crying (even if you weren't).

Sound hard enough? Good.

Here are some rules to follow. READ THIS PLEASE!

1) You may not use two word titles (anything else is fine)
2) No StICky CapS
3) No chat speak
4) Rhyming poems are acceptable, non-rhyming are as well
5) Harsh language is fine
6) Please use propper English
7) Please write the name of the option you choose in the Author's notes. (*boom* *crack* *zap* *kablauie*)
8) I will disqualify if I need to.

Okay, I'm looking forward to this!

Get to writing. This contest will end in a little while.

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on March 10, 2007
  • Rewards: Gold: 350, Silver: 275, Bronze: 200, Honorable mention: 5 people
  • Final notes:
So alas another contest has come and gone. This was an interesting contest because I wasn't quite sure what to expect. But I was pleasantly suprised. I found that with everything going on inside and outside contest this was the most stressful so far. And I hope that I will have a better experience with the next one.

I decided to award the top 8 enteries.

Thank you for all who entered I love you all and I'm sorry for the long wait. Fantastic writing, poets! Keep up the exceptional work.

Just be patient and settle down.

No one ever said that this contest was judged yet. I take my time and make sure that I'm in the mood to read. So I don't screw someone deserving of points out of getting something well deserved. So just be patient. It will be judged and I will comment on all of the entries, let alone read them.
