I've been a practiced Catholic for about nine years now, since I was five or six. This year, I'm to make my Confirmation, but it feels my faith has died. For a while now, I have gone to church only to please my grandparents. On Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings, I find myself wanting to stay home or be with friends, rather than being the active member of the parish I've been for so long.
Now I'm stuck making a decision; suffer through this and continue going to Mass, or forget it and live the way I want. Unfortunately, it's not a decision I can make alone. So I'm turning to the AP community for help.
You have a choice between two options:
Option One - Help me find my faith. Give me motivation to continue going to church every week. Show me the error of my ways and help me to find good reason in going to Mass. Please, don't pull any of the "You need to turn to the Lord to help you through," or "If you don't go to church, you will go to hell," crap. I already got enough of that from Father and my grandparents.
Option Two - Inspire me to gather enough courage to forget about what people [my grandparents] think and do what I want to do. This option doesn't have to relate exactly to my faith, because it's more about being independant from what people want me to do.
Now for the rules:
1 - No sTiCkY cApS or 1337speak please. It's very unprofessional and it hurts my eyes.
2 - One entry per person. Prewrites better be pretty good if you want to place, because I prefer fresh writes.
3 - No erotica or cutting/suicide poems, please. I have no idea how you could get them to fit this contest, anyway.
4 - Swearing; be my guest. With the friends I have, I'm not going to notice it anyway. It's about as common as 'the' in my vocabulary.
5 - Put which option you used in your Author's Comment Box, just in case I can't tell. I'm kind of thick like that...
6 - Check your spelling and grammar! I know we all slip up every now and then, especially me with this screwed up keyboard. But when every other word is mispelled, it's ridiculous.
7 - ~HINT~ I like rhyming. Free verse is just as good, if it's set up right, but overall, I prefer rhyme.
Message to Hitokugutsu: Hito, I know we planned on doing our first contest together after one of us one gold, but I really need this right now. I promise, when the event comes around that one of us does win gold, every point I have will go to the contest. Sorry, but I really had to do this. <3 Ais

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on January 23, 2007
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 1 people
- Final notes: I was very surprised at how many amazing entries I got for this contest. It was really hard to decide who to award with each trophy, and now that I have finished reading and commenting on all the entries, I wish I had enough points to give everyone a trophy.
Gold~ A Butterfly
This peice, as soon as I read it, I knew it would be somewhere in the top four. It is such a wonderful poem, and it definitely helped me with my dilemma. It's so beautiful, and it is an amazing analogy to the truth.
Silver~ Share the Light
The essence given to the Lord in this poem is definitly one that makes me feel a lot better about my faith. It helped me to remember that faith isn't about being fearful of your creator, it's about being connected to him.
Bronze~ A Roses Battle of Endurance
Only once before have I read a poem that gives such amazing personification to something so small and insignifigant as a rose. This poem is absolutely wonderful.
Green~ Don't Be Scripted
I had so much trouble deciding on who to give this one to. There were three marvelous peices that were equally deserving. In the end,I ended up giving the green to this peace because of it's truthful message.
Others~
Beleiving Is Enough and The Light Of God both deserve mention because I wanted to give them trophies so bad but didn't have enough points. They are spectacular peices.
Thank you to all who entered, I think I have found a solution to my dilemma and it is all thanks to you guys. Thank you for so many wondeful peices!

real faith
I would like to make a comment to you on the over all topic of the contest. Being a preachers kid until I was around 11 when I moved in with my mom and had the choice to go or not,. Faith isn't something we can give to you it's something you find in yourself between you and God. Not in a church or in sunday school or in youth ministries faith comes from inside you and out to god. Going or not going to church isn't going to keep you out of heaven. Giving or not giving your heart to God will. As for that church can be a great place for support and friendship if you are in the right one. Thanks for listening this is just my opinion and believe me my dad would be flipping out if we were still talking, oh well
