This is my first contest, wish me luck!
As long as I could remember the idea of a celestial paradise being out of reach has always intrigued me--Heaven.
There are many religions on this planet, with sects being created for every passing second, this being no joke. Yet, despite their differences, a paradise or some kind of haven should exist for them, or something of relevance.
Thus, my competition comes. I am looking for poems that discuss this topic, you can either believe or disbelieve, the choice is of yours--only. I'll read all of them and comment [on structure, not context, for the latter is not of my concern].
My rules are such;
1.Write on a direct link to Heaven.
2.Writes can be on a positive note, or a negative one.
3.No bashing amongst poets, and poems.
4.No erotica, nor ‘emo’; the word is Heaven.
5.Imagery; I need sensation of smell, taste and sound [for the creative]
6.There is a word count; please check in Microsoft Word before copying it here,
Word count, 70 words.[I'll word count each entry]
7.Correct Grammar and spelling.
8.Unusual usage of punctuation and capitalization is very much welcomed.
9.Preferrably in rhyme. Free Verse is welcomed.
10.Place in author's note the word, 'I believe' or 'I disbelieve' to show that you abide by the rules.
11. Recently added: I do not mind editting your work if you find it difficult to the word count, place in author's note 'help'. and i will aid. those who seek my help doesn't mean they have failed the contest, it means they are seeking to be better writers, proof reading and peer review is fine, whether you decide to stick to the new editted version, or change it to better suit you is fine, too. My advice is but advice. I love word counts, ive won honourable mentioning, second and first place in them, in regional contests. The first time I entered I realized the troubles, so friendly advice is ready to be given.
My Example [for those who need it]
Poet's Painterly Depiction
What my lips have tasted, Where and Why
--Is all behind, cottony clouds: Blue Easel Sky.
There amongst rivers of honey [and even wine]
Where with Departed Loves am I to rest, beneath tree: dine.
What my lips have tasted, Where and Why
--Is where Creator sits on throne; his people do guide.
Where martyrs with houris* sweet maidens, on ara’iks* rise
Children are but infant birds: caressing The Wise.
houris* maidens of great beauty bestowed on martyrs.
ara'iks* heavenly seatings, clouds.

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on January 30, 2007
- Rewards: Gold: 300
- Final notes: I have enjoyed your entries, and was glad my first contest, had few submissions. I do know the word count and theme had something to do with this, and the reason I was glad is because I didn't have to go through the frantic neerve wrecking job of judging many entries. Thank you all for your submission and your portraiture of Heaven.
The Winning Entry: When Heaven Opens.
I wish to have made special mentionings, because all of you deserve trophies, but I'd tint them in gold for all!
Thank you for giving me great and talented writes!
