The winner, and possibly some of the runners up, will be published in an Allpoetry.com book project.
An aside: What is an Allpoetry book project? Our book projects are theme-based books we will be putting together and marketing to traditional and online booksellers.
- Our first theme is "TEEN INSPIRATION". Things that are inspiring, introspective, finding yourself, etc. Bonus for specific teen things, but the point more is dealign with the common themes of that age - which is really something we continue to do throughout our lives. We may revise this theme as things go on.
- EDIT YOUR POETRY. Any poem that needs obvious work will not be accepted. Revising is the key to becoming a better poet. Make it look professional.
- AVOID CLICHE. If it sounds like something everyone else has written a poem about ("She said no, and now I hate myself", etc), it's cliche.
- BE CONCRETE - SHOW DON'T TELL. Show us via a story-poem how the reader learns a lesson, etc.
- KEEP IT G. Sexual themes are welcome, just keep the clothes on or/and use metaphors

The winner, and possibly others, will be chosen for publication. Any others chosen for publication will recieve $30. Signing a publication contract is required for payment, which will be by paypal.
Good luck, and thanks for being a part of the Allpoetry community!

The Book Project . .
I'd love to be in AllPoetry's first ever book project - but I am not sure about this at all . .
Haha - It was wartime when I was a teen - I'll have to think on it.

The Book Project . .
After reading some of the comments so far – it is not going to be a book for the coffee table - or to give the Grandchildren for Christmas in future years . . . -
Damn Cool
I welcome the idea Kevin
Hope this project is a success.
-
I don't understand the theme and don't think it is explained very well what you are looking for.... But I like the idea of the contest and hope to see more of these in the future.

Sideways attempt at an entry
I am trying to enter this contest but having computer struggles. This is my attempt to enter what is technically a pre-write, but the proper avenues aren't working for me. (I tried the JAVA-Script enabling instructions apparently with no luck. I'm not handy with the computers.) And the poem is supposed to be centered, giving it a distinctive shape. For instance, the word "there" in the last strophe appears as the waist of an hour-glass shape when formatted correctly.
Criss-Crossing the Necropolis
Heebie jeebie joyride,
two teens without helmets
on one puny red
motorscooter.
They pass the playground
on the left, they
pass the picnic-tabled lawns,
they transition
up the hill to crest and turn right
into the graveyard.
I hear them threading the deadscape,
laughing and putt-putting as they
criss-cross the grassy slopes.
I see them intermittently
flashing, riant, red,
there,
between the
granite and the trees.
-
Okay, really feeling sheepish, can't seem to edit out my last comment. I repeat, I am not computer-literate. Sorry.
-
So, how many poems of ours are you going to put into the book, Kevin?
And thanks for the chance, this could be a great thing for those who win.
Peace and love
------Connor -
Ok, so the theme is "teen inspiration." Does that mean the contest is open only to teens?
-
This is such a great idea, not only for money (it is not the only "invitation", but to be in the book of Allpoetry is a great challenge to all. Good luck with yor new project.

umm..is someoe gonna judge this soon....
-
-
I was wondering the same thing.
-
-
Judging? Hmmm...
yeah... it's been like a month and still it hasn't been judged... hmmmm -
Does anyone have any idea when this contest is going to be judged. I know the admins are busy, but its been closed for over a month now. If we did this they would have already judged it for us. Im not impressed with the admins blatent inabilities to folow there own rules.
-
-
totally agree.... like our poems are already taking on cobwebs here.... Sigh
-
They haven't even read over half of them. Out of 95, 78 haven't been read. I just to know if it will be judged. Can they give us an update?
-
-
finally we're getting somewhere... ^_^
-
??
How is there a preliminary round already, when a good portion of the entries weren't even looked at? -
Oughtn't you be fined for not judging the contest on time?

Have we been forgotten?
Looking forward to seeing who the winners are.

-
still haven't finished judging? oh boy... well be removing my poem soon here........ oh well anyways, whoever wins... congratz hehehe
-
This contest ended over two months ago. Just thought I'd send you a reminder...
