This contest, I suppose, is going to be considered a little morbid and I am sure a lot depressing. But I really wish to see some other views or words from people.
If you knew you were dying (and I don't mean as we all do in life) what is it you would wish to accomplish before you passed? Who would be the one person you would have to leave final words with?
What I would like here is one of the following...
- Write a letter to that one person, saying all things you were never able to say to them before. An apology maybe? Perhaps to tell them how you really felt. I really would like this in letter form. But you don't have to use real names. Just express reality from your heart and soul.
- Write a poem or short story about what accompishments you have always wanted to finish and now have put your mind to, just to say you did it before you died. Be specific and detailed.
- Write a poem or short story about what adventures you would take before it was 'too late'. Again, description is expected.
- Write a letter or poem to your child(ren) saying all you want to say, knowing they will not see this till you are already gone.
- Write a letter to yourself, detailing your concerns about family and loved ones and other things that will change.
- Write a letter to the higher being of your faith, coinsiding with knowlege of dying.
Rules...
- No chat lingo, all caps, sticky caps, etc
- No erotica or adult
- No bashing ANY religious beliefs or any poets, period!
- Cursing is fine, I assume at this point, you would be angry.
I will allow 2 entries per poet but they must be under different options. If you are writing a letter to someone, please put which category it would be.
I am looking for serious entries only please. This is not a joke to me, nor do I want it to be comical by any means.
Good luck

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on December 15, 2006
- Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50, Honorable mention: 8 people
- Final notes: I want to start with a huge thank you to all who entered this contest. Obviously, it wasn't an easy contest to write for, and by no means was it easy to judge, as each has their own view at the end of life.
I have been asked by a lot of people, what on earth ever made me hold a contest like this. So I tell you this, as I stated in the contest, this was very serious to me. It is something I am facing in more ways than one at the moment. I have recently been told that my body is shutting itself down as an effect of a rare form of diabetes I have had for about 18 years now. No prognosis has been given, but the realities of my life failing has set in, perhaps because of my son. Death was something I had never feared before, in fact I embraced it as a part of the cycle of life. But being left with not knowing, has made me scared recently.
Each peice here was heartfelt and touching in it's own way. And once again I thank you all for helping me realize many things.
Much love to all
Storm

Ohh this sounds like good contest. I'm lookin forward to entering. I'm interested, but I am thinking can we do a little bit of a mixing of the different options?
-
-
I don't see why not. I really am just looking for true emotion, not some BS just to enter a contest, you know? It is something that is seriously playing in my mind right now, so go ahead and combine the options.

I love the topic you have chosen for your contest. I believe every person has a secret dream for how they would like to be remembered. I hope contest inspires lots of people to reveal and start to pursue their ambitions. I hope I can be one of them!

Oh God Autumn. Why do I sense more to this than what is obvious? The idea for this contest is excellent and I definitely have something to add to it. But keep your chin up sweety. You're stronger than this.
