Echoes and Reflections

 EXTENDED AGAIN BY REQUEST!

ECHOES AND REFLECTIONS

DO YOU EVER WONDER IF WHAT YOU WRITE EFFECTS THOSE WHO READ IT?

IF YOU ARE ALONE IN YOUR PERSPECTIVE?

IF ANYBODY GETS WHAT YOU WERE REALLY TRYING TO SAY?

IF YOU COULD HAVE SAID IT BETTER?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
THIS CONTEST IS DESIGNED TO EXPLORE THOSE QUESTIONS ON A LARGE SCALE!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What concealed truth

may be revealed in a reflection?

Reflections are most accurate

in eyes looking back at you.

Will the echo be melodic,

or a disharmonic introspection.

The Universe is a giant mirror,

refracting back what you do.

Is your spirit like a looking glass,

dimensions over two, an illusion?

Do you see more in reflective surfaces,

than just what is skin deep?

Do you avoid your own image

in order to cling to self delusion?

Do self respect and confidence reflect

in your mirrored spirit's keep?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
We hear...but do we listen? We look...but do we see? I just love coming across poetry that resonates in my spirit, or succinctly states an uncommon perception that I've also always held.
Reading poetry should be done with relish and gusto, to entertain and to communicate. I like nothing better than to spark another poet's inspiration. To catapult the muses right off the poem page, into the pen of a reader.
Who; struck by the beauty of a phrase, or a grouping of words that evokes a vivid life-like image in the mind's eye; or stimulated by a specific concept resolution, that makes a long uncertainty, click into place; feels the ink flowing. It's nice to find that the words you've labored over have taken root like a tenacious vine, in someone's mind and outlook, and spread.
So...
SELECT A POEM THAT REALLY MOVES YOU.
IF YOU LIKE, YOU CAN USE THE POEM AND IMAGE AT THE TOP OF THIS PAGE
AND FOLLOW ONE OF THESE OPTIONS:
1)CONTINUE IT, extend the poem, flesh it out.
2)WRITE A POEM REFLECTING IT IN YOUR OWN WORDS
(MAKE THE SAME OR A SIMILAR/COMPLIMENTARY POINT, observation etc.)
3)WRITE A POEM IN RESPONSE, to how it made you feel, did it make you think of
another point, do you agree, or disagree, why?
4)
Use, all the words two or more syllables long in the poem you selected,
as a word bank. A
nd make your own poem.
5)Use a background image from my list "Beautiful Images"
 http://allpoetry.com/list/33073-Beautiful-Images
 and write a poem inspired by the image on that background. If you are a paid member, download the background and use it for your entry. Free members place a link to the background in your authors comments.
6)Find three poems from 3 different listed poets and/or myself that you think reflect the same or similar or related concept, message or point, and write an essay showing that connection and discussing the message/points made. This may, but does not have to, include a reflecting poem of your own on the topic illustrated by your essay at your discretion. (Any of the top ten entries using this option with the reflecting poem included will recieve a 20 pt bonus for the extra effort, but it will not effect your chance to win, only the writing does that. )
YOU MUST PLACE
THE OPTION NUMBER;
POET'S NAME,
POEM TITLE
AND A LINK TO THE POEM(S) YOU USED
IN YOUR AUTHORS COMMENTS!
IM ME IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS
RULES:
1-You are not required to comment on my poems or those of the other poets listed,
   doing so will not influence the outcome of this contest.
   -But of course you can if you like, and comments on my poetry will be reciprocated.
2-Standard rules apply, use spell check, no sticky caps, no chat speak, etc.
3-Enter as many times as you like, but I reserve the right to limit it later.
4-No pre-writes, unless you find a poem (of mine only, not other poets listed) so much like one of yours that it's scary.
   in that case IM me with a link, and I'll let you know if I will allow it.
5-Be Prepared! Some of you may be called upon to judge the work of your co-contestants,
   I will explain how this will work later, but in the meantime you are forewarned in case you
   want to read other entries as we go along.
   You are not required to comment on any entries,
   but it is always a considerate and appreciated thing to do so.
6-Recruiting entries to this contest will be rewarded,
   but will have no effect on chance to win.
   Only the writing considered in selecting the winners!!
   This contest is being done in order to get more people to really dig for what other poets are saying with their poetry,
   and hopefully develope the tools for responses to other people's work to be more thorough than just "nice write"
   So I want to get as many people on the playground as possible.
  If you recruit another member to enter this contest, you will recieve 10 points, similar to recieving
   points for commenting on poems.
   Have recruited member place "(Your Name) sent me" in their author's comments
   and you will recieve 10 bonus pts.
   This will not affect your score or rank or chance to win.
   (if this happens by the dozens, this may drop to 5 pts.)
   (list contestants you have recruited in your author's comments on your own entry (not mandatory)
    as well for extra assurance point awards won't be overlooked.)
7-Any style or form, I write in all of them
8-No bashing of myself, listed poets, or other contestants, feel free to express an opposing view,
   but don't be combative or insulting.
9-If you are not open to recieving honest feedback and critiques, do not enter.
10-I reserve the right
    -to remove any entry without explanation,
    -extend the contest if I choose,
    -or close it early if I choose.
IF THERE IS ANYTHING ABOUT THIS CONTEST THAT YOU OBJECT TO,
OR ARE OFFENDED BY, YOU ARE WELCOME TO CLICK AWAY FROM THE PAGE
    This has been a very difficult contest to judge. Literally each and every entry was trophy worthy. It generated wonderful discoveries and interactions between poets and just stunning work. In fact it is so good that I am considering putting it all together in a collection posted as a column, showing the entries and the pieces that inspired them, if anyone would object to me doing this, please IM me. Thank you all for participating! Congratulations to the trophy winners but truly congratulations to all of you for the quality of your work has been stunning! Much Love!
    dearest diana,
    thank you for hosting a truly inspiring contest, which immediately resonated with my soul - and so did your featured poem about mirrored reflections. I will be very happy to participate ...
    I am not sure if I wish to take on this challenge as a contest entry, I might take it on and post it as a seperate entry (not in the contest) I tend to sway away from contest that give extra points for things other then writing as it becomes less of a contest on abilities and more so on popularity. I can't ask someone to write for a contest that their muse didn't inspire them to do, therefore the way I see it, I am already on the losing end as there will certainly be those who will recruit many others for the sake of points. I do however wish you much luck with this contest, I love the contest idea itself, you always come up with great poetry and it appears your creativity expands into contest ideas as well. God Bless, Suzi
      Recruiting has no effect on winning
      Recruiting will not effect who wins, but only award points like commenting does.
      Not score points towards ranking in the contest.
      This is being done in order to get more people to really dig for what other poets are saying with their poetry, and hopefully develope the tools for responses to other people's work to be more thorough than just "nice write" So I want to get as many people on the playground as possible. The only thing the winners will be
      based on is the writing Suzi. Thanks for pointing out how that might be misconstrued, I'll fix the text.
    WOW!! I feel more than honored to be listed in your contest. I have been feeling a little down lately slumping back into my depression and thought I am usually very happy with my own work I have been a little skeptical of it in thinking that my style isnt good enough...*shakes head* it seems when I fall into this mood I criticise everything I do, even something I have been doing for 9 years and enjoy doing. This made me smile because it made me feel that atleast one admired poet has been touched by my work.
    The opening poem on reflections grasped my heart right away.. definetly my type of read, it was beautiful and related so very well. I was lost int he lines of that poem from the very first one.
    I will try to build up my energy and confidence enough to enter this contest for it is honestly a gorgeous idea and I would love you let other poets know just how much their words meant to me and what better way then a response to their own writing to prove it. Again I am honored to be on a list by someone as admirable as yourself, and you have a perfect list of poets there.
    Reflections......be mine to reflect
    Good to see a mind-provoking, and an emotion-challenging contest...
    In other words you say, does your feelings have the braves to let themselves out, or are they cowering still inside your so normal self...
    I accept your challenge...
    My entry is soon.
    I would like to say this is a REALLY good idea for a contest and I commend you for coming up with the idea. It's different and it does make people think. I will take my time to write something and bookmark this page and come back. I will also add a link on my authors page (Not for the points but for the numbers... More people need to think about others poetry). Thanks for coming up with a clever idea! Best of luck.
    Very Inspiring Contest
    This is such a wonderfully thought out and inspiring idea for a contest. It's refreshing to see a poet actually take the time to think things through and make a contest a challenge and not just the same old run of the mill like the rest. I'll take a look around the list of poets you have and see what I can come up with. In the mean time, the best of luck with entrants and with your judging.
    Blessings,
    Lily
    List of Poets
    DK.....your list consist of some fine poets.....but honestly.....I feel it is an insufficient list….There are many fine poets here…….not among the elitist proclamations…many of them are poets of same type poetry……My thoughts to your contest is at best a wonderful idea…..but to make it truly spectacular……adding the not so well known fine poets……no mater the gender or genre they write…..be added to your grand list…….or is this just to honor those on your favorite list?……..I know many of the poets on the list……and see and feel what they inscribe upon the pages……we are a community……I feel we should not depart from our intentions here…..Poetry……in any form or style…..just my thoughts of course….
    I remain
    Beautiful contest. We are back and forth remodeling an out-of-town rental property. Will be completed by Christmas. I have little time to write along with a wee energy level but my heart is with you. I think you have some spectacular entries here. I probably would not have stood a chance any way. ha xx
    First, what a wonderful idea for a contest. Second, you have picked a wonderful list of poets for us to choose from. I don't know how I'll ever narrow it down to just one poem by one of them. I just hope I'll be able to come up with something in time. --->pixxie<---
    Wow... I had a tough time choosing one of these poets, they are all so well known and should be as they are awesome writers. I decided to pick one that I had not heard of before and I am thrilled that I made that choice. I hope that I have done the piece I choose justice as it touched me deep within. Good luck with this contest dear and thank you for the challange and the opportunity of reading a poet not previously known to me.
    hey DK!!! This is a really interesting contest!!! You KNOW I have to try to live up to this challenge Btw... I know for a fact that some of my poetry mirrors yours... or that we have similar outlooks! So I am deliberately not picking you, because we think alike too much as it is! and I know dspiritsong's poetry, and luckynsincere as well as mysticstorm, and waking devil as I have been in contests with them, and have entered some of theirs. You have some awesome writers to live up to here! I plan to be up to the challenge! I don't come around as often as I used to here... I mainly browse the contests for inspiration... but you have definately piqued my curiosity
