No Bravery Anymore

I'm a bit bored, and want to read some stuff that opens my eyes. Gives me new perspectives.

* I've extended this contest again because I'm not ready to judge it, and I hate these updates. I need some time to adjust and am hoping that another week will have everything running more smoothly. Sorry to those of you who have been waiting a while.

This song is just a guideline. Feel free to stray as far away as you like!

James Blunt - No Bravery Lyrics

There are children standing here,

Arms outstretched into the sky,

Tears drying on their face.

He has been here.

Brothers lie in shallow graves.

Fathers lost without a trace.

A nation blind to their disgrace,

Since he's been here.

And I see no bravery,

No bravery in your eyes anymore.

Only sadness.

Houses burnt beyond repair.

The smell of death is in the air.

A woman weeping in despair says,

He has been here.

Tracer lighting up the sky.

It's another families' turn to die.

A child afraid to even cry out says,

He has been here.

And I see no bravery,

No bravery in your eyes anymore.

Only sadness.

There are children standing here,

Arms outstretched into the sky,

But no one asks the question why,

He has been here.

Old men kneel and accept their fate.

Wives and daughters cut and raped.

A generation drenched in hate.

Yes, he has been here.

And I see no bravery,

No bravery in your eyes anymore.

Only sadness.

So.

Write me a poem(s) about society....the lack of nobiltiy. Write me about bravery....what is it...how do you use it, show it. Write me about a situation you've been in where you needed it, had or didn't have it.

Make it up or spill it from your heart and soul. Write about stuff in the song if you want, create images...

Can be about people, society, mindsets, ideals, chivalry, love, friendship....twisted nobiltiy and loyalty. I also want you to put something special in your author comment box....something to do with the topic of bravery...could be a movie, book, quote, whatever. You have to do this!!! Or you can't win. I'm looking for poets who care about the things they write.

Give me hope, or tear hope down. It's all good.

No sticky caps...it's annoying. Spell check would be nice!

Other than that. I give you free reign!!!

First place: 600 points

Second place: 300 points

Third place: 150 points

And HM"s I'm sure. Though I don't know for how much or how many.

I've opened this up to prewrites for the last few days.

Good luck to all, and thanks for entering in advance.

Any questions or just wanna talk outloud about what's forming in your head, let me know

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 25, 2006
  • Rewards: Gold: 600, Silver: 300, Bronze: 150
  • Final notes:
I was going to hold off on judging longer, but I figured that I had to just suck it up and make a decision, which was harder then you guys know. There were alot of entries that I loved and wanted in the finals...but for some reason so many of you didn't do the one thing which was crucial. And that was tell me what bravery ment to you, in your author box....obviously that ment that you didn't read the rules through. Which ticked me off, and I did give warnings, which for some were not followed. Other than that, I was seriously impressed. I'm giving 3 Hm's for 80 points each. These entries were the ones who I thought embodied the contest well.

As for the winners I had to force myself to choose and if I could I would have given all three gold. Each touched me, left me going wow at the end, and each write was quite different from eachother.

I gave HM'S to the following:
Election Day- wallflower67 for 100 points
Hold Me- harlequinface for 100 points
Back at Home- rooibos for 90 points

These were the entries stood out above the remaining.

Thanks again to everyone, best wishes.

Hmmm! *Ideas brewing* I shall have to ponder my muse and see where she leads me. I hope to write something benificial as well as pleasing for a higher purpose than winning this contest. Loving supportive friendship.

So I entered a prewrite on society. And I think well I'm hoping that it's what you're looking for. In my opinion, it expresses the 'no bravery' of society not being able to think for themselves.

    I also <3 James Blunt.

I think you have a typo in your rules... surely it should be "free rein"...

      lol

actually that's how you spell it when it's the leather straps you guide a horse with, in the expression indicated it's "free reign" as in "reign of terror" or "Queen Elizabeth II's Reign"
