Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on November 23, 2006
  • Rewards: Gold: 300, Silver: 100, Bronze: 50
  • Final notes:
Thank you for participating in our contest.
We were surprised at the fact that quite many AP-members became a part.
And surprised that so many who do not have German as mother tongue dared to write a poem in German.
We did not mind, if there were some spelling and grammar mistakes, because we realize how difficult the German language is.
Some of you used a translating machine.
Though we did not forbid that in the contest rules, we need to tell you that these machines very often change the contents and something totally different from what you obviously intended turns out.
We judged on the German version, so in case you do not win a prize this might be not because we disliked the idea of the poem, but because it turned out strange in German.
    Thanks for all your efforts!

Sommerregen : It did not work out to give HMs in the new system , so I will give the points directly to the authors of the poems below:

    HM:

Unterrichtsmethoden oder Ihr sollt euch an der Pizza laben

    Nachtgeflüster

    Unsere Mahlzeit

  • To judge this contest, you need to have at least as many finalists as you have rewards. You have 3 awards but only 2 finalists.

i have a prewrite in german.. (and i suppose i might could write another poem in german.. lol.) a friend of mine also has a german poem that i imagine i could get her to enter.. but they're both prewrites.. are you very strongminded against allowing prewrites?

can I post a poem which I have already posted in English? It is written in both languages but I obviously only posted the English one. I never write German poetry unless it's really personal, more personal than the rest...

Oh, danke for the invite, I have been known to write and understand Deutsch, aber my understanding of das Sprache ist noch klein. I fear if I were to enter, my piece might seem like a German preschooler wrote it.
Thank you for hosting a contest that promotes this beautiful language!

Will get out the old German Enlgish dictionary and create a poem for you before due date. Will give me a chance to dust it off and actually write German, not just speak it. Thanks for hosting...

    dear sommerregen,
thank you so much for your kind invitation.
believe it or not, I have never written a poem in my own mothertongue ! ask me why - I simply don't know ...
but since I am determined to widen my horizon and overcome the limits of my mind, I shall certainly take this challenge as a welcomed opportunity to try out what I have never tried out before.
why should I only write in english and french ?
    silly, isn't it ?
so, I will have to get all my courage together and face again the language of my childhood with bravery (the german language has always scared me, I don't know why ... I'll ask my psychiatrist about it )
so, thank you and annie for hosting and hope to join you soon.
    alles liebe,
    marion

Oh, you have some brave souls in here. Well, if they haven't lived in Swabia, maybe they aren't so uncertain about their German. LOL. I will have to look through and see if I can at least get the gist of these.

    Ok

We are happy for everybody who dares the attempt.
Sure German is not the easiest language in the world, but we won´t be too strict if there are some mistakes. We know from not writing in our native language how easily mistakes happen.

I think I will enter this later today if I can. I've not seen any German contests before, so this is unique. Do you require an English translation somewhere with the post?

This contest was extended due to request, feel free to enter!
A translation is appreciated but not necessary, the poems will be judged by the german version, not by the translation (I guess ^^)

Uhh... my English is horrible today...
looking forward to an entry from you,

Never mind the last reply, I AM Annie, but reinhardt-napoleon isn't... sorry if I have confused you, i am very confused myself...
reinhardt-napoleon is my friend and I was typing up a poem for her on AP and I didn't notice that I was still logged in as "reinhardt-napoleon" when I replied to you...
I am the co-judge of this contest by the way And it WAS extended and I am still looking forward to an entry from you

    thank you for the Gold

Congratulations to all winners and thank you so much for the award of the Gold, as well as for hosting this contest. It gave me a chance to reach back for my German as I have very little opportunity to speak it here in the USA. I learned that language starting in first grade through High School, so I was very fluent in it, unfortunately one tends to forget a lot without practice and this was my chance
    z and thank you again,
