Hiya Folks! Calling all Pre-writes!
This is my second contest ever so if I goof, be kind. My idea is for you guys to dust off those old poems you love, the ones you wrote for a loved one - it doesn't have to be romantic - and submit it. You can edit it if you wish, freshen it up a bit, and submit it. I'd rather have pieces that have NOT won any kind of trophy, points, or honorable mentions.
I just won some points from Night Hope's Pay It Forward ... Continued contest and now I'm continuing it again. So there. (The indented excerpt is from Night Hope's contest - I can't take credit for knowing this.)
"'Pay It Forward'' is a book written by Catherine Ryan Hyde.
The idea for these contests was started by an AP Poet known
as little-hug. When you do something nice, you should do it
for the sheer joy of making someone else happy.
(How many of you loved the movie??? Huh? I know I did. How many of you cried ??? Nobody's looking - you can say you did - I won't tell.)
The basic idea behind this contest is to enter a piece written
about someone you care for ~ be it a friend, acquaintance
or even for someone you love. If you win the contest you use
your points to hold the next 'pay it forward' contest.
You aid & abet the spreading of goodwill, which continues
into infinity & beyond...theoretically.
If there are any questions, please leave it in a comment below.
Awards:
Gold ~ 300 points
Silver ~ 200 points
Bronze ~ 100 points
possible honorable mentions depending on how many points I can rack up by the time judging rolls around.
*RULES*
~ONLY PRE-WRITES ALLOWED - If you give me something fresh, I'll put it with my moldy cheese.
~MONKEY BEHAVIOR IS ALLOWED - as long as the cussing, poopy throwing, and screeching noises are kept to a minimum and not aimed at any other entrant.
~STICKY CAPS - Do I even have to say anything about them, I mean really, who likes them anyway?
~USE GOOD GRAMMAR AND SPELLCHECK AND THEN PROOFREAD!!! I am a bit of a stickler about this. I will point out errors and request they be fixed. I know that pouring out your heart does not always go through this filter but hey, it's for points so go through the extra effort.
Finally, I will carefully consider all entrants regardless or race, sex, creed, religion, etc. I'm an equal opportunity judge of poetry.
Speaking of judging - I will have help with that so you're not just appealing to me, just in case you decide to do some research to see what poems I like. It will be fair and I do not have favorites. Every poem will be read once and possibly several times and a comment will be left. I'll be kind, at least I'll try. Pass me the gummy bears -- *I said I'd try!*.
You DON'T have to put anything goofy in your Author's box - I will be able to tell if you read the rules or not.
I'm so excited...on tippytoes...oh boy, oh boy...I can't wait!
*Much peace and keep practising random acts of kindness.*
JUDGING UPDATE: I know you're rolling the grass and wiggling around waiting for the judging to be over.... I have narrowed the over 140 entries down to the top 33....
.............to be continued..........return to your regular programming..............

Contest is Over
- Contest was judged on October 30, 2006
- Rewards: Gold: 300
- Final notes: First, Thank you for all of your entries and hard work. This was tough. Truly it was. There were many entries that did not follow the theme of the contest. Out of those entries I did find some that I really liked and am considering running another contest just for those entries as they did not recieve consideration here.
The judging was done on the merits of meeting the theme of Pay It Forward and after the weeding was done (painfully so) there were some strong contenders for runner's up. The reason some are ranked higher than others is based on my own personal opinion on the writing for use of language and vocabulary, impact, flow, and imagery as well as poetic devices. I enjoy poems that tell a story - free writes.. rhyming is ok - but it's tricky because meter can trip you up (me too!).
There are a few that would have been further up my list had they made some changes to grammar or spelling. TO those of you who did, I appreciate the effort and because of it, your work got read more than once and sometimes more than twice.
I am no expert and don't claim to be. The top three appealed to me most. The other anonymous judge and I agreed on 1st place and we were divided on 2nd but in agreement on 3rd. My thanks to him....

This is an awesome contest!! But just one question: One poem per person? Or will you let two of our prewrites run free? There are already some great poems on here. Good luck with judging!
-
You know , I have to say this, I have never had any luck with entering prewrites in contest, and had no desire to enter one again... until I read your contest notes. I can't remember seeing a more fun, polite, well scripted contest that just screamed please enter. I am going to enter this one and I don't even care if it places, I just think you deserve the respect you have given others here. Thank you for this contest, and for talking to us as though we actually are real people. I wish you much luck with this contest dear.
Hugs, Suzi -
DC - I would prefer only one per person as I've had a lot of entries already - although I'm not sure I'll catch multiple entries by the same author as I will not be looking at the names but just the work so if you wanna try it, go ahead, but I'd rather only one. It's touch, I know to pick just one baby, but please try. Best of luck in the contest.
-
Suzi - You certainly brought a smile to my face by your comment. I am glad you decided to enter. I look forward to reading it. Glad you enjoyed the contest notes...I wrote it late last night and was in a goofy mood - I'm thrilled it caught you. laugh, love, live, and then laugh again ! Great motto.

Cool contest
It would be nice to be able to read the names and titles without having to highlight the black link text though

Reine des Coeurs, sorry it's tough for you to read. Strange, though, because with my screen there's no problem. I'm glad you entered anyway.

The main text is fine
but the link text is black on a black background.. (my pc is the latest with Windows XP, set to optimum color & contrast). How is it visible?
