The SIXTIES were an exciting, revolutionary, turbulent time of great social and technological change: assassination, unforgettable fashion, new musical styles, Camelot, civil rights, gay and women's liberation, a controversial and defensive war in Vietnam, the first manned landing on the moon, peace marches, World's Fairs, flower power, great TV and film and sexual freedom.

Oh my,love love love 60's music! The ultimate in your list for me is Georgia on my mind by the one and only Ray Charles, finally Georgia let him back in and Amen to that. Will bookmark and ponder, have sooooooooooo many 6o's titles in my head am dizzy with them, was my mom's era but I loved it all in restrospect except Nam,God bless those still grieving, still suffering PTSD,those being born with birth defects due to chemicals used.
Here are some more faves,Sam Cooke "Only Sixteen",Otis Reading "My Girl","Ferry Cross the Mersey" Gerry and the Pacemakers,oh dozens...Will bookmark! -

-
awesome subject
Lynda...thank you for inviting me...OMG I saw the whole transformation of music...from the twist of the early 60's...to the British invasion to the ushering of the protest filled late 60's...it was a scary time to be a teen...for I found out in the 70's....awesome subject...what I wrote was fitting...for in those days it was more tears than love...some of the most impacting music was written then...it had heart and soul...thank you...smile and hugs..Dave -
I love these music contest inspiration themes of yours, Lynda! Gosh, you and I must've had the very same record collection at one time!
the original poem-thought I had to the last contest is still playing in my mind, though hardly anything to post at this point. I'll see what I can develop of it...but I love and remember the songs you have listed as options to this contest!
Jo -
OMG, haha, love sixties music, interesting contest! Hope you get a lot of entries and good luck judging them! keep it real!
See you around the deep end

You know, seeing good ole Bob up there made me giddy (of course) and Janis, too... but the one that really made my day was Peter, Paul and Mary. Ah, now that was a group. 'Where Have All the Flowers Gone' is probably my favorite, but ya gotta love Puff the Magic Dragon. Oh, I remember many nights singing along with my dad while he played that song on the guitar.
Great contest idea, Lynda.
-
hehe TY Meli...a friend suggested Peter Paul and Mary. I did a search last night to make sure that they were all truly from the 60's lol....Next is 70's then 80's so I think it may be fun
TY for your support and you know you are always welcome to come back!
If ya have a different title in mind, just let me know
Lynda
-
Oh, I love Peter, Paul and Mary.
If something comes to me, I'll definitely be back. Can't wait for the 70's and 80's, too. Gotta include Motley Crue in the 80's though. Gotta. I have a whole list of musicians/songs, if you need a couple of titles.
I'm an eighties girl.
-
I love you! The 60's and 70's and 80's were awesome! Unfortunately I wasn't alive yet, but the music is way better than what we're got now. You kick ass!
-
Good, come back and enter!
Hope to see ya back soon!

Far Out Cool
Can I do one that was released the exact month and year I was born ? First brought to us by Bob Dylan ( who was born in a town just south of where I was born )then made famous by The Turtles, and taken one step further by Johnny Cash ? I love the titles and might still do one of those, but would love to offer a humble homage to a beautiful song first. Great idea for a contest. Must have been hard to ignore some like Jefferson Airplane, Moody Blues, and the Who to name a few. -
you sure can
Surprize me
Lynda
-
It is my birthday today and no you hadn't sent me this contest. I am still working on a poem for another seasonal contest of yours. I was born in 1950 so all these songs are ones I danced, pranced and took chances with. I wanted to grow up to be a beatnik and ended up a hippie. Hitch hiked about 24,000 miles around the United States while in college. See what I can do, no promises but hopefully the muse will strike twice in close proximity. Love,Tom B.
-
awwwwwwwwwwwwww, Happy Birthday Tom!
I thought you may like this one. I was born in 1960, but I have always loved 60's and 70's music
I am doing 70's next then 80's......
Hope you come back! Always a pleasure reading your work!
Lynda

These titles bring back so many memories - loved these years in which I was a teenager. Great contest challenge. I wrote on before on the 60's and the music then - could I use it for this contest?

Merry meet,
What a great idea for a contest. I like some of the titles that you hve chosen. I'll see what I can come up with for this contest.
Amythest -
Cool contest. Thanks !
-
ROCK ON!!!
Gurl.... you are right up my alley with this contest! I remember every song on this list rather well in fact! It is funny, but even though I have changed so much since that time, I still love that music! I recently won tickets from the local classic rock radio station (John Boy and Billy are my heroes...lol... don't tell anyone
) .... Anywho, I won tickets for two different shows at a local beach which include
The Marshall Tucker Band, The Atlanta Rhythm Section, Jefferson Starship and get this.... JOHN KAY and STEPPENWOLF!
I thought most of those guys would be dead by now.... Lol
I'm taking my old man and going to see all of them...
O.K. enough ramblin... I will definetely pick something to write for this one! It will be hard to choose from that fantastic list though! Thanks for hosting this one!
Blessings,
