Pay it forward contest #4

hi

oops I don't know why some of the winners appear with crossed out text in my closing comments I didn't mean to do that. I don't know how I did but sorry if anyone reading it is confused

This contest is based on the concept of "paying it forward"...
This is my 4th pay it forward contest.. and this one is a little bit different
Here are links to my previous contests
allpoetry.com/Contest/2115280
allpoetry.com/Contest/2132863
allpoetry.com/Contest/2138445

"Pay It Forward" is a book written by Catherine Ryan Hyde but it is also a concept, an inspiration !! ( well I think so anyway .. It's an action plan.. to read more about it you can click here www.payitforwardfoundation.org/home.html
but in a few words it means if you do something good for someone, instead of them paying you back by doing something good for you, they do something good for someone else, and then that person does something good for another someone else... and pretty soon a lot of people are feeling good and doing good things I hope I explained that OK

As I mentioned above this contest is a little bit different to my previous contest which were to write a poem for anyone.. a family member, a sick neighbour or just someone you know who you think needs a smile, or maybe just a stranger you felt like reaching out to by writing some words of inspiration... but in this one I would like you to write a poem for all the people in this world who live very difficlt lives through no fault of their own.. Some people are just born into poverty and suffering and its own through their courage and love that they manage to survive to make the world a better place.
I have just returned from Africa. I went over there thinking I might be able to make a difference in a few people's lives by helping them and sharing the money my brother and I had saved up but actually I discovered that it was them who made the biggest difference in my life and I will never forget the people I met, the things I saw and just the whole experience. My uncle works and lives in Addis Ababa for Concern www.concern.net and we went over with him for a little while.
I am going to save again for as long as it takes to go back there but I would love to be able to send some poems with words of encouragement to the Concern Offices out in Addis Ababa where my uncle works to let everyone know that even though we're miles apart people from all over the world care about the work they are doing and I would love to include some poems by members of AP in it so that is the aim of this contect because I know for a fact that no matter what everyoen connected with Concern will keep on paying it forward

..of course if you win you'll get lots of points so it might seem like I'm just asking you to do something good so I can reward you which could be true. I hope its not. I hope you use the points to do the same thing, to hold a contest for other people just to keep the feeling of good growing I hope I don't sound like I'm preaching or trying to say whats right or wrong.. I just always loved and believed in the concept ever since I saw the film and I think that knowing you made someone smile is the best reward ever and if that person then goes on to make another person smile then it can't be a bad thing, right ?

ALL THREE ENTRIES who place in Gold,Silver and Bronze will be getting enough points to start their own contests. I really really hope they use the points to "pay it forward" by starting a contest of their own based on the concept. That is why I am giving them the points, with that hope, but obviously it is everyone's own choice what they do with points they get or are given but if they chose not to use them for the way hoped then thank you anyway for the beautiful words you wrote to help and inspire others
Well I guess if you agree with me you might enter, hopefully please  If not, sorry I wasted your time if you read this far...

anyway ..........

Just a few rules ~~

Nothing adult because I can't read it and I don't think it's appropriate for this contest
No bad words because I don't think you need to use bad words to make anyone feel good

not a rule but if you win I really really hope you "Pay It Forward" but its your choice of course

Oh yep and you can enter as many times as you want, there shouldn't be a limit to how many people you can make smile, right ?

thank you

ellie

Contest is Over

  • Contest was judged on August 8, 2006
  • Rewards: Gold: 300
  • Final notes:
Firstly I would like to say "thank you !" to everyone to entered... I really appreciate the support given to me for holding these contests and I'm so glad so many people relate to and love the concept of paying it forward.. I would have liked a few more entries for this one but maybe that is me being selfish because the entries I did get are beautiful and caring.

Secondly.. before I mention those who are placing in THIS contest I would like to explain to you again what I wanted to do when starting this contest.. "Pay It Forward" is a book written by Catherine Ryan Hyde but it is also a concept, an inspiration !! ( well I think so anyway ) .. It's an action plan.. to read more about it you can click here www.payitforwardfoundation.org/home.html
but in a few words it means if you do something good for someone, instead of them paying you back by doing something good for you, they do something good for someone else, and then that person does something good for another someone else... and pretty soon a lot of people are feeling good and doing good things I hope I explained that OK...

So basically in my life there are so many people who do good things for me and others (especially dedicating htis contest to the amazing people of Africa) that I want to spread on that good to other people and that is why ALL THREE ENTRIES who place in Gold,Silver and Bronze will be getting enough points to start their own contests. I really really hope they use the points to "pay it forward" by starting a contest of their own based on the concept.. That is why I am giving them the points, with that hope, but obviously it is everyone's own choice what they do with points they get or are given but if they chose not to use them for the way hoped then thank you anyway for the beautiful words you wrote to help and inspire others I will be starting another contest of my own right after this continuing the concept of "paying it forward"...

anyway I'm sorry if I've bored you rambling on but it is important to me... these are the 3..

Gold + 300 points Kwashiorkor by Red Red Rose
Silver + 300 points I wish that I could make you smile by Upsidedown map
    Bronze + 300 points

This contest sounds like a wonderful idea, and it's a wonderful breath of fresh air from the usual types of poems and contests that I see here. Unfortunately, I'm in a bit of a dry spell for writing positive poetry, so unless things change very soon, I won't be able to enter anything. But I did want to thank you for holding this contest and wish you the best of luck with it.

    Love and light,

    Jenna

And I hope you had a wonderful time in Africa- seeing people live different lives to your own makes you really how lucky you are, but also how lucky they are in certain ways...if you get what I'm saying? But anyways, talk to you soon!
